cycling TV coverage, consequences for events

Supercycling was on for yonks, and obviously got tired. I'm not sure if the new show will shoot the lights out either. I haven't watched the Voxwomen's one that precedes it's timeslot.

There does seem to be a trend of change, old bankers like Boots&All and the cricket show seem to have been shelved/shortened too. There's also E Sports in the mix now  (which is basically kids playing playstation). The overheads there must be tiny.

Now, does this trend have a knock on effect for race sponsors. they want their brand on TV, and the only way seems to be to have it on a dedicated show/insert. This is where you pay for it to be flighted on it's own.

this week - https://www.supersport.com/aa.aspx?t=sport&v=Cycling&view=full

You have magalies monster, 1Zambia, Advendurance TV #4, Liberty Encounter series all on this week.

Or does this not really change things?

Events pay in cash to fund these TV packages. take it away and the sponsors and costs come down together?

Meh, who watches TV?

The kids are on instagram and Twitter. TV is too small an audience these days with such hectic lives.

Rather have a vlog or podcast.

Also not going to compete with GCN.

The playing field is changing ...

The more people get access to faster internet, the faster the playing field changes.

This weekend I hardly watched any tv, but watched a LOT of this -

Going to be interesting to see how it changes in the next decade ....

I can give you some insight if you like; fibre to the home is available quite widely in NZ, so we have internet speeds of 1000/1000mbps and uncapped plans are the standard. My kids don't know what broadcast TV is. We watch Netflix and my 4 year old takes great pleasure in watching 'fails with dad' on YouTube when Mom isn't around. I pay 15 bucks a month, I think, for Netflix, 12 bucks a month for YouTube Red, and routinely buy good kids movies on Google Play for about 20 bucks a pop. As for TV in the traditional sense, we don't bother at all...
