CO2 Inflator - What to look for?

What about the inflator and hand pump combination?

Mine seems to work great and costs not much more than the inflator on its own.

Slight highjack, where do you keep your inflator and Bombs during a ride?

:offtopic:  - thanks - not - how embarrassing...

I have to admit to having a saddle bag on my roadbike  and a second bottle holder with toolbox bottle on mtb or in the camelback pocket if its a social day of touring...

My excuse is that I have no friends that can keep up...  - no domestique teammates.

So have to be my own domestique and try win the race. So everything I carry has to be superlight or its left at home...

Hate the screw on, if have removable core I find the cold co2 shrinks it enough to unscrew core when removing bomb adapters

Yeah I'm also leaning towards the push-type instead of the screw-on. The one-handed operation appeals to me, especially now that I've used it first-hand.

I dont think you covered it but there is another type. you screw the canister in and then the push on operation opens the flow. then when removing it shuts off. I have a Ryder one which is also tiny and super lightweight if that matters to you.

Apologies that's what I meant by the "trigger" type, I should've said "push type". But yes, those seem to be the way to go in my opinion.

Thanks for asking, that would have probably been my next question. I have a dropper post so anything post-mounted wont work, and my Camelbak storage is rather limited. Based on the amount of stuff I've seen flying from jersey pockets, I'm not to keen on that route either. Might have to opt for one of those BBB 2-catridge mounts that fits on the bottle holder mount.

I like the idea, but then size becomes an issue again. The benefit of the CO2 inflators is that aside from the actual CO2 catridge, the inflator bit is super light and tiny

Toolbox bottle! Cool idea! But then again I've also seen my fair share of bottles flying around over the technical bits, hence my use of a Camelbak

My inflator goes into the back pocket but ... hate the bomb in my pocket so -

Cut a piece of tube, inserted it around my seat post and the bomb is held in there. Put a piece of tube around the bomb as well. Serve three functions, prevent my hands from getting stuck to the bomb during 'the big freeze', prevent the bomb from scratching my seat post and sliding its way around the post. Never had any issues with it thus far, even during some crashes. Stays put.

Don't lean. Jump.

The screw-on type is really, really, really, really worse than useless on the trail. Do not, under any circumstances go with a screw-on type. Ever.

ps. that Lezyne one works perfectly.

You also get a trigger type... which actually has a trigger - so you lock it on the valve and then push the button - unlike the type that you push down onto the valve to open.

The bottle works but that's why you need a tight cage or strap it in there to prevent it ejecting.

I use this one - from CWC...

I see that CWC also sells a nice composite one by BBB which might be easier to dig out of the mountain of mud stuck to it after a ride haha

Okay cool, so I'm sticking to the devices listed in my original post. If they can fix the price of the first one, I'll go with it otherwise it'll be the Lezyne. And then the bottle toolbag thing. Then I'll chuck my tubeless repair kit, tire levers, master link and multitool in there and then I should be golden for the next breakdown :)

Knock Specialized  at much as you like but their Z-cages hold things in place

Been using mine for many years now, both road and Mtb. Never had the valve core unscrew, but I do not just unscrew it after use, I wet it with a bit of water from my bottle to break the ice seal.

Also got the "bomb holders" fitted under my one bottle cage, holds two bombs, no problem and no rattles. I just turn it around so that the bombs is upright in the holder, no chance of it unscrewing and falling off due to road / trail buzz.

Also cut a piece of road inner tube and pull it over the bombs. Helps with preventing the "big freeze"

Cool idea. That seems like the best solution for me as well in terms of storing the bulky bombs, and then I'll just keep the tiny inflator bit in my Camelbak.

After too many failures of cheap inflators, I bought this Crank Brothers inflator. Easy to use and beautiful to look at.attachicon.gifCrank.jpg

This. Where do I get it.  :w00t:

UPDATE: I found it, on special too!

Thanx for the info. Ordered and will collect tomorrow.
