Thanks for everyone's input. I'm simply looking for group rides to improve my skills, speed and get input from other riders riding the same type of trails - the kind of riding I want is fast and technical so my riding can get better and I can be at the level I want to be. Not trying to hate on anyone but I guess I stepped on toes.

Only because most riders on Tygerberg area consider Cobra the be all and end off of technical trails :P

Just asked the questions because you told Frikkie that Durbanville wasn't technical enough for you. So have you done all of Tygebergs technical stuff? If you have then we have an idea of your technical ability and can point you in the right direction. You say you want technical and fast but we don't have any idea of what your idea of technical is. For some people, the Green route at Conters is technical, for others the Black is not technical enough.

Thanks Frikkie but I am looking for a more aggressive type of riding (technical & fast). My 26er is a beast :D

Hahaaaa yeah then you probably don't want to ride with us. I like to go as slow and non-technical as possible when I ride my penny-farthing to the ice cream shop on the Sea Point promenade in fear that my yorkie will fall out of my purse and chip a nail.

Not trying to trash talk anyone, just being honest about the type of trails I want to ride to get better and faster, im a newbie too (riding for a year now) but I know where I want to be and what type of riding I want to do to get there. Sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings.

No worries, the other day my chainring went a good centimeter into the back of my calf and the wound got infected, so I had to scrub it with a nail brush to get the dirt out. That hurt way more than my feelings     But jokes aside, while our preferences are aligned in terms of what we would like to do, I've only been cycling for a couple of months and by the sound of it you want to klap the double black trails, which we're not doing just yet, guys progressing at different rates and all that. I just thought I'd offer in case you were riding solo which I know can suck donkey balls, but it might suck equal balls for you if we're doing trails that you find boring and all that.

So no hard feelings! I hope you find the crowd you're looking for :)

Thermo.... When you joining us at Tokai for a change?

Stressed Eric is clearing the gaps, and leaving us behind

Haven't been to Tokai in quite a few weeks actually. But the only problem I have with Tokai is okes are not keen to get any mileage in :P

And for some reason it's been hard to convince people to ride to Bridal Path :P

Thanks Frikkie. Guess I deserved that. Nope, not looking to do "double black" trails - I think I came across wrong here, my bad. Suppose I should ask before assuming. I did send you a PM.

Yep, I hear you. I have ridden all the trails in Durbanville, I didn't mean to suggest I am too good for riding in Durbanville because I am nowhere near the technical skill I want to be hence asking about group rides to improve my skills, I was under the impression it was a more XC type riding he was referring to, my bad.

sigh...Bikehub is getting on the "give people flak for asking for technical trails" bandwagon again.

FFS...you don't need to haven cleared every gap and everything on every technical trail to want more options. meh

I don't think we are giving her flak. But one (wo)man's technical is another (wo)man's tar road.

Apparently they're building some big(ger) stuff at Lombards.

They have built a big jump line at Lombards. It's not a technical MTB trail IMHO. It's a jump line. More rocks, steeper descents and less bloody berms would be great. More flat corners so you need to learn how to control your bike instead of just riding another berm :(

something like MOAB (granite rocks) on Table Mountain?

Yeah TM has some seriously technical riding. Makes Contermans Black look like Supertubes...

Tygerberm is great, don't gt me wrong. But the trails fast become monotonous. Fast flowwy berms most of the way bar a few short sections. More off-camber and non-bermed corners would go a seriously long way to increasing the difficulty of the trails while still making them totally approachable by even the beginnerest of beginners. There are not enough natural large rock features to get more rock gardens everywhere, but where there are features they should be incorporated in new trails. Otherwise we breed a generation of mountain bikers who are too scared to tackle the little old Cobra on Hoogies. A trail which someone with VERY little experience can easily go down with a little guidance from someone a bit more experienced.

you are right. Some more variation would be great but I guess economics, natural terrain and mass appeal dictate what is built.

for sure...but it's MUCH cheaper to not build a massive bermed corner than build a big berm :P

Switchbacks is mandatory on a Tokai mission. Mainly for the mud at the bottom so you look serious in the parking lot after the ride.
