this is a request to mtb race organisers....is there a possibilty to maybe print an emergency number on the number boards? I always see a lot of people stranded along the road with mechanical difficulties or having had a bad fall and then dont know what to do.

Now just a skimp.....maybe have some puncture repair kit and few chain links at the waterpoints.....Wink

Is this a  MTB thing?

In  40 years of road racing I have yet to have an unscheduled chain break.

The guys at the water point would have to stand around a long time before someone requested a chain link fom them in a road race.

in most mtb races the guys at water points do have chain breakers and puncture kits and in some cases proper tool kits

and also at every mtb race i have done which is close on every race on the calendar the organiser requests that you either take down the number that he recites in his race briefing at least 3 times and if he doesnt do that there is a number on the board

which race did you do that you didnt get these things????

for one, i never listen at race briefing, because you can never hear what they are sayingEmbarrassed...two..sometimes arrive too late. So just think if the organisers can print a number on the board it would be great!

Well, we did Babbas Lodge today, an no number.... not given at race briefing, not on the board...

And the loop you have to do is almost 30 km's with the waterpoint right at the end / start....

Not that I needed it (luckily), but do know of a whole lot of people that had to walk a great distance!!!LOL

Oi Turtle - I also done a lot of races, road and MTB, and there are many I have been to that don't give it out at the briefing or have it on  the number board ........Confused

I think it's a good suggestion that it should be standard Smile

Harsh reply there turtle as I have never seen MTB riders jotting down tel no's in a notepad at the start of a race. I personally never race with a phone either (weight saving Embarrassed), so knowing my luck I would crash, be seriously injured, and the good Samaritan that would stop and offer help would be the one that did not have a notepad at the start of the race, or whose pencil was blunt, or who arrived late at the race!!<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

So it is actually not a bad idea come to think of it!

At the Epic they did a good thing in passing out a wrist band with your emergency number and medical details. This is on a refective band, so I leave permanently on my Bike. This could work in addition to the details on the boards

it is a good idea. i personally always try to get the number in advance and put it on my phone, and yes, at mtb events i tend to be an unofficial "sweep" - stopping to help anyone i see in need, but i think i'm an exception, not hte rule.

I always ride with an ICE ID bracelet on my ankle and I have my phone .... else it gets stolen from the car.

Also, some number boards are used at many events. Spectrum Sport is one that springs to mind, but maybe emergency numbers could be on the entry form then we can put it wherever we want ... even have it tatooed across my buttocks if I wanted to.
