I just found out that the 6fattie bike i was going to buy is a medium, i thought it was a Large

And im 1.83m

My V10 was a medium and i didnt mind it, are there any benefits with riding a smaller bike? or is it a complete no no?

It sucks because thats the only 6fattie i see for sale at the moment

Just seeing if there is a way to make a plan to make a medium work, or if it makes the bike easier to jump / handle etc

That's very small! I am 1.78m and on a large which fits me like a glove. You will be very cramped on a medium - I don't even think you should consider it.

To make it work you are going to run a stupid long stem - which will ruin the bike. Don't waste your money on the wrong size, many people on this forum have made that mistake (myself included), and have paid the price!

I found a large frame but it's an enduro not a stumpy, think im going to get it.

Are enduro bikes stupid hard to climb, especially at your super steep tracks?

I think getting a bit fitter will make those easier descents all the worthwhile!

Enduro climbs just as well as you want it to. It's a fantastic bike, and will work well considering your background. No such thing as too much travel. Besides, it's only 160/165mm - not a DH bike by any stretch of the imagination. It won't climb as well as a 100mm xc whippet, that's true, but that's not your focus, is it.

You're coming from a v10. You want to carry on hitting tech trails and ride enduros. It's definitely one of the better options available, and will feel more stable and planted than the Stumpy.

Don't make any mistake, with any bike there is compromise. When I'm on my stumpy and the trail point down I sometimes wish I had an Enduro, when it points up I sometimes wish I had a camber. It's an all rounder, but there is compromise. With the Enduro you will never want more going down, but you will want a different bike going up.

But.... with the enduro you are only compromising in one place, not in two places like the stumpy. So if down is your cup of tea, the Enduro is gonna be the right choice.

I wish I had a different pair of legs on the way up. And a different set of lungs... I never feel my tank is holding me back, though, and apparently the endurbro is a "better" climber than the Reign.

Meh. Whatever. I can still pedal it to the conters mast (just) and it puts a bloody big grin on my mug when it's pointed down. Do I wish it had 20mm less travel and turned into a trance on the way up? Nope. Not for a second. But then I don't care how long it takes me to get to the top, as long as I get there. The only way I'll be faster is if I get faster... I'd be just as slow with an Anthem. Maybe. Slightly.

As long as the bike puts A smile on your face you're golden

Pretty much sums up what I am trying to say. Figure out what's important and fun for you. If up = Camber, if up and down = Stumpy, if down = Enduro.

But, all 3 can go up and down, the decsion as to which bike is just gonna depend on what puts a smile on your face.

Okay so I bought 2017 Enduro 6fattie and took it on its maiden voyage down all the DH lines at tokai yesterday and yassis, that thing properly handles like a downhill bike! Super stable. Ate up drops and rock gardens. I'm sure it's also thanks to the 2.8 tires. The only thing is the bike climbs like a 3 legged donkey. I made it to the top each time but I don't see myself smashing 50km rides on that tank.

So asking for one more piece of advice, buy a set of solid 29er rims for this bike, or for the same price buy a 29" hard tail just for my XC rides.

There's a 2017 specialized Rockhopper comp for 8k, almost new

Thoughts?

Have a Hightower ,which is a brilliant bike in both 9r & plus. But with a proper set of Carbon 9r hoops it pedals very differently to the plus wheels.

Did one of the ashburton marathons on it... maybe not the lightest most pedal efficient bike but certainly do able with normal wheels. Last bike was a tallboy 2 & same race last year I was only 9 min quicker . So that's a good comparison.

Next marathon could be with plus wheels, might be a bit of a slog but will be soooo much fun. Love those plus wheels .

Buy some wheels ????
