Front brakes with more bite for buck?

I don't know about the newer Tech brakes but the lever on that range is a bit iffy, I had X2's and eventually went back to Shimano because of the awesome level, and I quite like the feel of Servowave... and being able to buy pads off eBay for R30 a pair vs R400 odd at the lbs for Hope X2 pads because no one makes generic X2 that I could find. That being said the 4 pot Tech brakes can use the older XT shimano type brake pads?

They are truly faultless . The modulation on them is phenomenal. A mate has the E3 tech 4's and I actually think these have better modulation.

I wouldn't change them even for the newer as they work so well.

sounds like the crapra is the problem then ;) Perhaps less dragging of brakes? The only heat related problem known to affect the initial batches of Guides was the the stuck lever issue because of an expanding plastic component in the lever body. New part at the top.

Quick squizz of the internet doesn't indicate a general situation of guide brakes overheating. Maybe the issue you mentioned and the piston problem are related?

which guide models, and what type of pad where they using? there was an interesting thing mentioned at the Val Di Sole DHi by many of the mechanics: for such a steep, fast course that involves a lot of heavy braking, rather go with organic pads. Apparently transfers much less heat to the caliper.

Get the new part for the guides or have the plastic " worked" over by A GOOD mech

The issue can be solved and the guides are good brakes .... I'm shimano fan ( only cause I can't afford hope )

My 2 cents worth.

I bought some Trp slate T4 brakes off a Hubber.

They are the 4 pot type.

Price wise they are mid range, but the power and modulation is awesome.

I lock my front wheel, and I'm 120kg's.

i got 4 pot elixirs 7s, can stoppie down steep stuff with no lever pressure

i only weigh 52kgs so i don't need anything that powerful,

they ll probs stop being powerful enough in a few months. thats happened with my last 2 set of brakes
