Don't listen to Myles. The fact that he's bolted a 10 year old 66 to the front of a carbon Reign indicates that he's clearly deranged and all advice he gives is to be ignored.

Oranges are Overpriced steel girders. The only people who buy them are men in their 40's who think that Hair bands made good music and that cars in the 90's were better.

Please stop that shirt now Myles!

starting a fight and disappearing to Italy. Hehe.

Bahahahahahahahaha!

Get a set of 100% sunnies to go with it. Yes I have a pair. LOL.

On a more serious note. The Intense Primer. OMG. Best bike I've ridden.

So do I. Same as the 66. Everyone hates on them until they see or try them. Then they're like faaaaaaark I need this in my life.

When I first saw Schell with them I took the piss properly. But only because I was super jelly and just had to have a pair.

PS. I am secretly an Orange fan.

A 324 in burnt orange with a 40 out front a CCDB out back and hope everywhere else.... That and a season in Morzine. Dreams.

Ohhhhhhh...... niiiiiice.

It's been fun reading all the horrific suggestions ( ;) ) but the only answer for this magical bike is....

Intense Primer.

/ thanks.

Love one... please and send me the no for the shop selling them for under 30k :)

Save a little more.  As with all bike things - you know you're going to go over budget at some point.  So start overbudget.  Easy.   :w00t:

As if by magic...

but I'm sticking with the Orange stage five (or maybe even the six will test ride at Bike Park Wales first and make the call.

Banshee Prime. Case closed.

That is a good call. Now, just need to see if that one @ Stoke is still lurking about for a test run.

Not sure I can be of much help as haven't ridden the intense, transition or orange.

But have ridden and owned a few mid travel 9r's. Some of the older ones like the 29r trigger & genius. And more recently a 2016 spaz s-works stumpy and now the Santa HT. All of them great bikes in there own right and most definitely have there place.

But things have moved on in the last couple of yrs and now the same sort of travel as the genius & trigger are slacker more aggressive and more capable all round.

I have ridden the following and a jeffsy a fair few times, as obviously I have the stumpy & Hightower.

I first bought the stumpy in a large ( new but great deal) with out testing it . The stumpy needs no intro. And is all it's hyped to be . A brilliant bike ready for anything that you are. Probably the most pedal efficient bike of the bikes mentioned . Also feels the smallest of all the bikes ( maybe coz the large felt a little small for me) but not in a bad way at all. The swat is bloody handy and a great idea. I only had the bike for about 2 months at the most. It just gave me back ache for some reason. No matter how I changed the set up. But the bike was definitely as capable an all rounder as you are likely to find if you like a little extra travel and some fun stuff .

When I bought the Hightower I didn't get to demo one and I was so close to pulling the trigger on the following. But when I got a deal on a HT I couldn't resist it as i am unashamedly a massive SC fanboi...this is my 5th one .

The yt jeffsy is unbelievable value and I think that's what draws lots of ppl in. The bike is soooo much more though. It's really pedal efficient and a riot when pointed down. Unfortunately the one I rode was the bottom of the range and a well used demo. But looking past that you could feel the potential. Some how you could just feel yt's downhill background coursing through the bike. It kinda felt like it wanted to kill you then would save you when you run out talent and balls but have already committed. But it never felt poppy & overly playful.

The following on the other hand is very playful and a proper fun bike to ride . It urges you on to do stupid sh$t you know you shouldn't really be doing but take it on anyway. As cliched as this sounds the bike really doesn't feel like 120 at outback. The one I tested had an mrp stage 130 up front. The DW delta link is stunningly brilliant . When you are pedaling up hill in steep rocks ,it's just winches it way up like it has some sort of 4x4 low range mode. The rear tyre just claws and grips in the rocks. It's really the most unbelievable feeling. And ridding it permanently in open mode just felt right all the time.

When you go down anything on this evil it just makes you grin continuously like the village idiot. It's impossible not to go full tilt and just hang on. It's truly a great bike. Why didn't I buy one,I don't know maybe coz I originally wanted the orange and they didn't have stock. Although that's a weak argument for my final decision, but hey I'm fickle like that ???? Did I make the right decision not sure on that either .

The following I rode is proper sorted and had a whole week plus with it thanks to my mate trailer park.

As for the Hightower I bought. If I had to sum it up in a few words, beast, steamroller, super stable would be the first words that come to mind. The ht looks like a big bike and does to some extent ride like a big bike, in a very good positive way though. It feels big when you need the confidence to bomb through stuff but fairly nimble when you in tight stuff. I say fairly nimble coz it's not the most flickable poppy bike to ride at all. And when you put the plus wheels on , holy farrrkk does it just eat everything in its path. Its like the bike is scared of nothing regardless of how big the rock garden is or how steep the rock face might be. Even if you having a girly moment the bike makes you do stuff faster than you would of thought possible never mind possible at all. It also pedals really really well albeit a bit on the heavy side with the plus wheels. I have done the ashburton VG marathon on the ht and for me that is a pretty tough race never mind with a bullish bike likemthe ht. But the bike is completely capable of doing these kinda distances and rides as is the following ,as long as you not in a hurry and would rather have fun.

Did I make the right choice ? Am still not sure as the ht is overkill for gauteng and definitely my level of talent if indeed that even has a level. But it's a confidence inspiring ride and most certainly has that Santa Cruz feel to it.

The biggest down side for me on the Santa is boost. Have recently just bought some really sweet wheels that didn't have boost hub's and am struggling to get boost adapters for them. The selection of boost wheels at decent prices is minimal to say the least.

I know this might not be the most helpful in your choice ????But if anybody is looking for the same sort of bike maybe this read will give them some insight.

Wow, thanks so much for the input on this and taking the time to give your thoughts. You can read all the mag' reviews but actual experiences from day to day riders are gold. Great to hear on one of the bike I was thinking off and 2 that weren't really on the radar. Appreciated.

Awesome been meaning to post this for a while. And your search seemed the perfect topic. It's been a long journey with much reading and debating ad nauseam . Still not sure the journey has ended ???? But only because of the boost hubs. It's future proofed if I find the solution to my new wheels .

Good luck on the journey hope you find your perfect ride ????

Something I didn't mention was, I was strongly considering the yt jeffsy race. I think that's there top model. The price you can get it for direct is insane. And as you are traveling it might be an option for you.

The difference between buying it here locally and direct is fairly substantial.

And here in sa you pay upfront and wait for delivery for 4-8 wks depending on stock etc.

I decided against this option for 2 reasons . The main one being, like you I had a build kit and just needed a frame. And secondly the cost in sa & the waiting time frame vs the possibility of buying a lot cheaper direct .

Of all the bikes i have ridden and mentioned the jeffsy feels so bad ass and way more downhill orientated than the rest. As bulldozerish as the ht feels the yt just had a different thugery about it.

One thing that rings true with the Hightower is that once in the open not much can hold a candle to it.

These are obviously just my feelings from riding all the bikes as an avg Joe. That is in his 40's....so DB can discard my sorta half cock review ????????????????

In fact the closest bike I have ridden in terms of feel to the yt was my pascoe.

Ask 'the nerd' he has ridden both bikes as well . And the same ones. Although I owned a pascoe .
