Seating a tubless tyre with gas

you get bead blasters now for the 4x4 and quadbike tyres... but for bicycle a big compressor will work, so just amble to nearest petrol station and abuse theirs.

The garage was my first stop. Didn't help.

Wonder what sort of pressure you can get up to, and won't too much blow your tyre off the rim? Leaving you with a big skrik and a wonderful YouTube moment we can all enjoy

Don't think the initial pressure is an issue. As soon as the tyre seals it also seals oxygen from the 'explosion' therefor extinguishing it. And then the instant cooling reduces the pressure. Well that's my voodoo science theory anyway!

But I was carefull not to go ape sh!t with the gas and you never know there is always a first time for everything.  :whistling:

What tyre and rim combination? I've fitted Knards and Chronicles to Rabbit Holes without issues sealing, in fact they held air for 24 hours without sealant......

That's impressive. Couldn't get the bead to contact the rim to hold the pressure from a compressor. I've got Sun Ringle Duroc 50's.

What's your opinion of the Knards and Chronicals and were have you bought from? Local or international?

I was an early adopter of 29 x 3.0, Knards were the only tyres available at that stage. For a non-tubeless, wire bead, 60tpi tyre at 0.6 bar pressure, they were pretty impressive. I only replaced it because of tread wear, no sidewall cuts on Gauteng's rocky trails. The Chronicles, however, are far superior in terms of grip in both the dry and the wet.

Bought all the tyres at my LBS, Sprocket and Jack.

I have similar experience with my 650 * 3.0 on a 45mm wtb scraper wheelset.

Seat with a floor pump no problem, but we shall see what happens when I fit new tyres!

If someone else is going to try this please wear safety goggles or glasses

Thanks Porqui, it's probably something i should have lead with. Be safe if you attempt this. Face mask or safety goggles and gloves. And maybe a fire extinguisher near by.
