Tyre woes (that is with a "w" not "h")

So Sunday morning I go bombing into a drop with my SS, drop caught me off guard but I made it work. Next moment I get this squirt of slime in the face (I immediately learned that porn stars are underpaid), anyhow, it turns out that there is a massive leak around the valve and some juice on the side of the tyre where the rim and tyre meets. After a few big words, 2 bombs and about 300m of riding it all seals and I finish the ride (about 15km).

As is the tyre is still sealed with no visible leakage or pressure loss.

My question is: Do I just leave it and carry on riding? Or do I take off the tyre, check for cuts, and possibly replace the valve and rim tape?

Hardware is: Stans juice, Vittoria Barzo tyre, unknown rim.

I’m no expert, but I would just carry on, assuming that the tyre holds pressure until the next ride.

I would inspect the damage and fix if possible. Does not hurt to just check everything out.

The tyre may not have huge damage and will probably ok but check it. However if there is damage on the valve or the rim then you don't want to get stuck the next time you go ride with an unrepairable issue.

fix it. don't be lazy. :P

Meh, seems like this will then be happening this evening. Was hoping to spare myself a sticky mess.

Thanks for the info so far guys. Now hold thumbs that it's not a sidewall cut above the bead.

lets hope there is not damage to the rim and just a loose valve or similar...

Those of us at the top of our game actually do quite well,

From outside there is no visible damage. I did an inspection when washing the bike, also checked out the rigid fork to ensure no damage to the carbon.

As for the valve, I think it's a low quality valve to start off with as it has no rubber O-ring under the tightening (lock) ring. So maybe this is a blessing in disguise.

As for the little sealant that is left, can I draw it out with a syringe and just top up, or is it better to throw it out, wash out the tyre, and replace it all fresh?

you going to be filming this?  :whistling:  :w00t:

How old is the sealant? if not old then use it again.

If old with bits of grass and dirt in it then chuck away and top up with fresh juice! ....although grass can help plug up holes...but I would rather chuck it  ;)

Tyre woes (that is with a "w" not "h")

I've heard of a tyre burping, but NEVER hoesing...

Just put it on the street corner and watch it leak...

Ok, so due to commitment issues I did not take off the tyre... I basically deflated the tyre enough to be able to push the tyre in and inspect it. No air leaking that I could find, also the valve seems solid if I push/pull it around and in/out. So at this stage it seems as if might have been a severe burp that battled to seal?
