Lukka boys! solid ride! Why didnt you stay for podium?

I went for a recovery ride yesterday. With my son. In search of ice cream. And I was worried I wouldn't be able to make the 3.5kms home!

I broke several records in that race - highest average HR for 60 minutes, longest time sitting on the pointy end of my saddle (despite the comfy office chair, I can still feel that saddle), getting dropped and riding back on far too many times.

But, they found the results for The Crisis Syndicate:

We weren't on the podium at the time. We double checked, but the timing guys were adamant.

We felt bad so also didnt go up, as we were in Riversonderend by the time the podium happened.

So sad to see organizers work so hard to host a good event, then timing guys bugger up the one essential part of the race.... The timing.... Hope there is not too much collateral damage.... Well done anyway to the organizers for hosting a great event. Definitely back next year!

We had an absolute ball on our gravel grinders. What an awesome day out!!

However, that last section alongside the N2 was not ideal for gravel bikes at all. A few people we spoke to on gravel bikes came short there. I think they need to rethink that short section a little.

Glad to hear that we are not the only ones who’s timing is off. Our Pont time (the full 45 minutes!) was included on the results.

Apart from the timing issues, what a great day :D will definitely be back!!!

It is a mtb event after all. Had no issues om my mtb on that section.

Is it though?? The organizers said that “the route is 100% gravel bike friendly” on their website, FAQ document and in reply to individual queries.

That section along the N2 can’t be described as “100% gravel bike friendly”. I am sure you had no issues on your mtb, but my point is that the event shouldn’t be marketed as a gravel bike friendly event when sections of it are not reallllllly suitable for gravel bikes.

PS I will be back again next year, and on my gravel bike again ????

Fair comment.

I know of some people on gravel bikes that hated the section just before the N2 around the canola field.

I saw people on MTBs walking that section (to be fair, I was in such a dark place at that point that I seriously considered walking too).

Pushing a gravel bike is still gravel bike friendly. Just don't go dumbing down events for the sake of a very small minority of riders. (Those gravel riders on fatter tyres with decent skills had no issues)

Fair enough - I just thought the “100% gravel bike friendly” claim could have been a little misleading. I rode the canola field and N2 section but like you, I was feeling generally unhappy at that point ????

Only one solution, pop in to the shop on the next Big Day out.

At only 120kms from my house, that will be a breakfast pie!

Although now you've planted a seed...

Breakfast pies deserve love too.

You know there is an Ou Meul in Simondium as well? Just a tiny detour from the 4passes route....

This is the kind of talk that great adventures are made of. Pies and bicycles - possibly two of my most favourite things!

Long Street, Cape Town

Willowbridge

Welgemoed

Stanford

Riviersonderend

Simondium

Somerset West

Riversdal

Pinelands

Rawsonville

That's a lot of pies!!!
