Are SA stage races too pro-orientated?

I am sure there would be more examples - my point is just that they are few and far in between.

I agree with hackster on that race coverage have settled on a boring formula - if they can come up with something different more people might be tempted to watch

Well some people read our race reports and even watch some of our videos, so you may be onto something. :P

We don't actually have locals that you can really call pro's. So I guess you are already watching amateurs winning races and getting interviewed and telling their story.  :whistling:

My biggest reason for NOT watching any racing on TV is:

1. Normally only on DSTV

2. Races in SA are too boring to watch. (MTB and especially Road)

Most MTB routes are cool to ride as an Amateur, but boring as hell to watch and the Pros make it look too easy. If organizers make the routes more interesting to watch, then the mid packer finds it too tough and doesn't attend, so they dumb the routes down to keep the masses coming. So the TV coverage changes from seeing how incredible the front guys are to "where am I?"

Same with the road races, sheesh, even the Satellite race was won buy a sprinter, but at least it was done due to tack ticks, We don't have the depth in the Pro field to have 20 possible winners and this is also partly due to boring routes, no variety is given to develop different type of riders.

And have you watched some of the coverage that some of these "non racing" events gets. Its not the most exciting to watch.

I think this is because of what we get to see.

First shot...group riding at full pace

Next shot..smaller group riding at full pace.

Somewhere in between multiple attacks took place but we dont get to see that

I think the OP is asking for more footage of the lovely female competitors not competing for the podium.

If so I fully agree with him!!!

In light of the current social media left climate, this statement is so wrong.

I couldn't agree more...

I think the fact that they have to give sponsors their pound of flesh is a given, But its as if the producers are just lazy, and every event's video ends up looking like every other event's video
