Can I bash out this dent in the seat stay?

I got this bike for free from my brother. Managed to get most of the parts I need but I have two questions.

1) If I put a G-clamp around the welding points of where the seat stays connect with the seat post will it be safe if I bash the dent out of the bent seat stay?

2) Apart from eBay and Aliexpress where can I get 27" x 1.25" tyres ?

The tube is hollow, so bashing it will just flatten it further, and the weld will probably loosen... I agree with everyone else so far... perhaps engineering works can help

you really shouldn't bash that or bodge it (it will snap on the weld before it straightens)

it must be put in a jig to straighten the frame or it wont be safe to ride

you need someone like dave mercer http://mercerbikes.co.za/about-blog/

it will cost but he has the tools and the skills with steel

you can only ask ....

As the man said. If you get it wrong you will destroy the frame. Materials change properties and get brittle when you bend them when cold or also heat them and don't cool them properly. Chances are you will end up squashing the tube.

UNless you have the experience then take it to a pro...

I have no experience with this so that is why I am posting here first.

My brother rode it like that for quite some distance, I want to restore it (on a budget) and my hold on to it or sell it.

I'll email Dave Mercer and hear what he thinks about it.

Edit : Any ideas on where I can get 27" tyres?

I dont mean to be funny but is that frame really worth all the effort?

Unless ofcourse it has sentimental value.

Should have done this a long time ago... There are some of these bikes selling in perfect condition for R750. Guess this is a wild goose chase.

also give BMC a call ... they did some good work for me before on a steel fork ... and pricing was most reasonable
