Full Ironman Training Program - Coach Parry

Has anyone or planning to use Coach Parry’s Full Ironman Program which you can download for free? It is a 12 week program but I don’t really see recovery weeks? I was thinking of changing the 12 weeks to a 15/16 week program by building in a recovery week in after every 3 weeks of training.

Any thoughts or advice. Anyone used this program in the past and how did it go?

Lindsey is a great coach - go with it - if you want to change it, then rather contact him and ask for a variation, but I think 1 week off every month is too much - unless you are not in reasonable shape and need to work up to a proper 12 week program.

No, he is a very reputable tri coach as well.

I’m just worried about the lack of recovery weeks. Would like to hear your what others say.

For IM the recovery weeks is still plenty of efforts and lots of time, instead of a 30k long run you still end up doing a 15k easy run. 6hr LSD bike could still become an 2 hr easy bike and in the end an recovery week can still be 10-15+ hours.

 

Might vary to indivduals and coach... but IM is a long day and its best to be prepared for it

Nothing wrong with a 3 + 1 model especially if you work etc and have additional stresses outside of training. During the rest week I am not sure if you mean off totally or a active recovery week. i.e. day on day off or 2 on 1 off to allow recovery and adaptation. 

 

3 + 1 is good regardless of level of athlete.
