Strap for strapping things to my bike frame

Hi Hubbers,

I've been carrying my spares/tools in my shirt pockets when riding without my hydration pack. I'm not too fond of saddle bags, and getting a bit tired of the weight of the tube pulling the back of my shirt down. I was also thinking of taping (insulation tape) my spare tube to the frame, but not too keen on the idea purely because I regularly swap between two bikes (similar tire size/width) and not to keen on dealing with the stickiness when you have to use the tube.

I came across these two products (rubbery/stretchy plastic strap with buckle) that seems really useful (for more than just strapping my tube to the bike frame):

http://www.voilestraps.com/

https://int.oneupcomponents.com/collections/gear/products/edc-gear-strap.

Comparing this to a Velcro strap I think you should be able to get it really tight without damaging the paint on the clean frame, not to mention that mud/dirt can just be wiped off.

Any idea where I can find something like this in SA? The price on the EDC gear strap is a bit rough but at R100 per strap (without shipping) I think it's still worthwhile.

I am probably dof, but why is a tubbie bag unacceptable when strapping this is ?

It goes exactly where a tubby bag goes, costs more, weighs no less but has none of the benefits of being weather proof, protecting your tube and bomb treads from mud, and having a spot to pop R50 for those emergency coffee, beer or Uber

Tube in this pic is a MTB tube so is quite huge, road bike tube is much smaller so folds up into a much more compact bundle that just about dissapears under the seat when using the rapstrap.

Also roadies never ride through mud so you dont get sand and mud on the bomb threads.

The R50 note goes in the jersey pocket so you dont have to walk back to the bike when its time to pay for the coffee.

A roadbike tubbie bag which contains a tube, bomb and inflator strapped tight is just as small as a parcel of tube, bomb and inflator packed loose and strapped and disappears into the same space unless you are suggesting that the rapstrap puts the goods above the saddle rails ?

Saw this which is new, can be worn under helmet, dont have to strap onto bike but can be strapped directly onto ones pip !

Can't believe that there is stuff like this out there! Good laugh! Think it will interfere with the helmet a bit and probably be a health hazard... Still having a good chuckle!

Yes, Eddy, this is why I use the strap, but used a bag for a long time, not anymore, lots of people do.

On my MTB, still have a bag because i ride through mud.

Pah !

Don't try and compare size with me. I am acknowledged as a master in the "who has got the smallest one" competition.....

See, you don't need a big one. This has all the benefits and none of the downsides. It even cam free with a Continental tube !

Touche, Eddy,

Yours is indeed the smallest, i accept the defeat.

Could just be the scale against that oversize fizik seat though,

I once saw a guy strap his iphone 7 plus under a fizik seat, completely dissapears.
