Sleeping pills. Riders who won't wake up and end up in hospital... Lobato fired... Tolhoek and Eenkhoorn begging to keep their jobs...

What exactly had they taken?  Sleeping pills that aren't "on the prohibited list" aren't exactly grounds for dismissal.

Something is rather amiss here and Lotto management aren't say much.

They took meds that are not approved by the team...riders were sent home after the incident because the team have their own code of conduct...and they immediately released a statement.

But on a serious note..no team wants to sit with a tragedy and by the sounds of it things got a bit scary for a while...sleeping meds is a dangerous thing..ask Paolini..sleeping pills to get a good night's rest and in his case it then led to cocaine to get going again...I am not saying it all leads to that as Paolini had some personal issues as well. I would assume that there is a reason that the team have reason why they don't allow certain meds.

Funny how you just accept their version of events so easily vs some other stories we hear....

Wonder if this is not the traditional training regime. Go ride, then pop some sleeping pills and fall asleep hungry in order to control or lose weight?

Kudus to team management for doing the right thing.

Noctamid and Stilnox

Both have been linked to abuse/dependency issues and some flat out weird side effects but neither are particularly difficult to get hold of or prohibited by any sporting body (as far as I know).

Termination of contract just sounds way too serious a consequence for sleeping pills.

Either Lotto were for looking for a way to dump Lobato or something crazy happened.

My guess would be "recreational drug taking".

With Pro Tour teams all and every medication has to go through the team Dr for approval and documented even if it is not script required. Regardless if it is Vit C or sleeping tablets in this case.

The other issue comes in when it is used to aid sleeping or used incorrectly in a party / jol atmosphere.

Mmm.. they have their code of conduct..riders are well aware of what. Something weird did happen ..a medical emergency.

But

Correct on team approval as all meds do but there was a right fork in the road with this incident hence the loss of job.

I am just going with what is known to the public at this point..can't exactly say more than that..if there are any behind the scene things going on we will hear about it soon enough...there was an incident the team acted and made it public.

but

1)taking sleeping pills

dodgey stuff

2)ending up in hospital

it looks like there is more to it, from my couch at least.

Yes it would seem so yes..there are reports that it was mixed with alcohol..the team deny it..but it's not far fetched to think that it was what resulted in a hospital trip...there does seem to be more behind it.. perhaps a previous issue and this has given the management an opportunity to cut staff. I am sure the media will go digging and find more on it, they always do..
