Double distance on equipment when using 2 GPS devices - Garmin

Good afternoon to all Hubbers on this hot Christmas Eve!

Ever since I've started using 2 devices to track my cycling workouts (outdoor), I've noticed that instead of adding 100km for example to my bike odometer after a 100km ride, it adds 200. This makes it difficult to keep track of consumables such as tyres, chains etc. A fellow club member of mine uses two separate GC accounts, that could be a way to avoid the distance duplication.

I've noticed however that Strava detects if you've used more than 1 device so it ignores the data from the second device.

Any suggestions to avoid the distance duplication?

Firstly why create a problem for yourself as there is no need to record with 2 devices as you have shown that for a number of rides both devices work well.

As you do not say, I presume these are garmin devices? Therefore both devices are uploading to garmin connect. So you will have to delete one of the activities manually.

I don't think strava ignores a second device. I have a friend who also logs rides with 2 devices (Edge 520 and 920xt). He has to manually delete 1 from strava. So are you sure strava is ignoring one of the uploaded activities??... and is probably why you are actually getting double distance recorded!

Correct. But I want to. Second device offers more in-depth data (after the ride) than the first (during the ride).

Correct, as per the thread title.

Hand on heart, I deleted nothing. Activities highlighted were recorded with both devices, yet only 1 activity shows.

It all makes perfect sense to ave two recording results from two recording devices, even if the recordings overlap.

Contact Garmin, maybe you are not alone in this plight and they might expedite a solution

Perhaps delete the activity from the ‘during activity’ device and only upload the one?

AFAIK, both your devices offer the same level of data, I’d be interested to see what one offers during the activity that the other doesn’t. Seems a bit odd that a cycling computer wouldn’t have everything the multi sport device would have, and possibly more.

You may be complicating your life a little! I have a 520 and a fenix 3, both offer the same info, with the 520 having more in activity data options, mostly due to screen size only.

You must be a pro needing all this data, shouldn’t the team car radio you this ‘in activity’ info? [emoji6][emoji6][emoji6]

Nah, he is probably on Discovery and is using the 2nd one for ......

If the second device offers richer data, why not only use the second device?

Played a part in the decision making. Was advised by others that a multi-sport watch doth not make as good a cycling computer as my existing device. Starting multi-sport next year.

That doesn’t answer the question really. Why not only use the richer data of th second device? Why save crappy data AND good data. Just save the good data.

What data is there in the first device that is not on the second device?

Multisport... the thcik plotens..

So, Run/Bike/Swim or Run/Bike/Run or some such?

Are you trying to record the total activity via the multisport device but also have the detailed during-activity stats on the cycling leg as shown on the cycling computer?

Upload the one, discard the stats from the other before uploading

ps: freakin try-ath-eletes.... I hope not   :whistling:

Something like that yes.

On the money there.

I think what I'm getting is don't upload the stats of the one. Thanks for the replies so far!

I don't believe there is such thing as crappy data. How you interpret the data afterwards can be hogwash.

You still aren’t explaining what the first device gives you that the second doesn’t.

I’m starting to think that you are doing Virgin points for you and the missus......
