You are never too pro to wave

I can always tell when there is a triathlon in the near future by the sudden increase in the "always be aero" riders who wouldn't even consider a wave. Even nodding your head destroys the aero benefit and you lose minutes.

So my favourite game to play with turduckens is to ride past them in the most unaero position as possible, breathing through my nose, and wave at them vigorously. And if they try to hop onto my wheel I make sure to enforce the no drafting rule with a disapproving look and a burst of pace ;)

(why do turduckens insist on staying aero when going up a hill at 14km/h??? - one of life's great mysteries...)

I found that some tri-athletes (or time trial bike riders) really get the moer in when you stay in their slip with your 29er even after several attempts of them to up the pace to drop you.  :whistling:

As much as I despise triathletes, I don't think it's fair that we pain them all with the same brush just because of a certain Kenyan South African British Monegasque (I had to Google that last one).

In fact, I even have a few turducken friends.

Seeing that you race towards the sharper end of the field, it’s probable that a few of your friends could also be “asthmatic”.

You need to whistle a tune while sitting in their slip too.

Add luck would have it, I am asthmatic. I always used to take my inhaler just to stay alive.

I'm now eagerly awaiting the World Tour teams to come knocking on my door looking to sign me. Fame, podium girls, and wealth await...

When you make it big, just stay away from the girls! These cycling WAGs seem a nasty bunch!

Oh and remember to wave!!!

I have proof that even the pros wave. Taken in the Cradle a few days ago.

And we saw Mr Froome in Cedar Road on 31 December....he was in the aero position too. I was gonna overtake him and wave but I was on my Mtb!!

I tailed him a bit that day in the Cradle, he was moving!!

Did he drop you or did you back off...

It was pretty much even Stevens, but then took a hit of his inhaler, and my power jumped 100W just to stay on his wheel and I dropped off in about 5 seconds, amazing how much that one puff pushed up his power like that!!

You sure he only took one hit of the inhaler...

Aaagh pffft. You can do a 5 hour ride in 45 minutes if you puff the green stuff. I heard.  :whistling:

First timer and slow roadie. My core strength fails me and I lite down on the bars to rest, calling this my 'aero' position. My numb fingers flap around and other roadies think I'm waving. MTBers are so upright (at attention) it seems more appropriate to salute as they also appear to be a militant bunch, marching at high cadence.

Yup, he was flat out, at 400W, took a single puff and he jumped to 500W! Amazing I tell you!

All of you keep banging on about the pressure he develops by inhaling at the one end, and none of you mention the pressure he builds at the other... Surprised that uncomfortable style has not been considered purely as a result of cheek manipulation.

His performance is only because of his salbutamol inhaler, nothing else! Without that inhaler he couldn’t win B batch at 947!
