Curious to know how your training program changes during winter. Been 2 weekends now that I just didnt bother. Its too damn cold to be on the bike at 6:30.

Im spending alot more time indoors (gym - treadmill/spinning & weight training) till it heats up.

You can dress to be comfortable enough in cold weather but not in the wet. Wet also means a more dangerous ride due to reduced vis, more punctures, less grip etc...

If its wet, I hit the gym and spin, swim and run. Otherwise no rain, means mountain biking.

Come and live in the Tropics. We had a "cold" morning today. Min Temperature was 9*C with an average of 11*C and the maximum was 14*C. Quite amazing how the temperature changes the moment the sun rises above the Horizon.

We were quite cold. Remember it is normally not the temperature but the difference in temperature. We still have very hot days here.

SlowJoe, just get up later, I go out at around 9am and its not so cold then if you dress OK.

But I hit the gym and run/row/circuit and then try and ride 2 a week in winter.

yoh theres alot of heroes on the hub Wink Dont think the ride in the cold part is as bad... its to actually get out of bed early when its cold thats the real prob.

6:30am - We have normally finished our morning ride by then and are siting in Fournos having a hot coffee and a croissant!

I think thats the key to winter riding -  to have something to motivate you to get out of bed. If it was just to ride, i would never get up, but the 4am wake up isnt that bad if i know that IanJ, Jules, Bored Girl, Epoh, Sonic Thug, Jeremy etc will all be there as well.  And the reward of a hot coffee afterwards usually is the deciding factor.

Get yourself some decent clothing, some good lights, a few mates and a bit of motivation, and you will be fine to ride through winter!

I think the point of riding early is dodging traffic.

If I am going to get up at 4am, in winter its going to be for something a lot more interesting tham a ride.!Wink

During the week, I trundle off to the local VA and either spin or ride the stationary bike or run on the treadmill or do some weights or ...............!!

Weekends, I poke my nose out at 6am, enjoy a coffee and a bun, read the paper, feed the dog, and maybe hit the road at around 8am - maybe........!!!Smile

Wolverine, checked our ride for sat, it was below 0 at times!!

It was between -1 and 2 for over an hour.  Was actually going to stop at one point to check if my toes haven't vrot off.

Kept telling myself, only 8 more weeks...
