I've a 2017 Pike RCT3 140 on my Intense, and really cannot fault it. Once you get it dialed in it just does what it's supposed to. I had the same decision to make when I built the bike up and went with the Pike, mostly because I've always been a RockShox fan, and the cost of seals is quite a bit lower than the Fox. And my bike cupboard is already stocked with Sram compliant lubes.

That said, I've ridden a few Fox 34 equipped bikes and the fork felt very smooth. To be honest I doubt there's too much between the 2, unless you're a top end racer.

My opinion is you can`t go wrong with both, but depending of what damper is in the F34 I would go with the pike.

If the FOX has the GRIP damper I would go with the PIKE. I have a 2018 F34 Performance and find that I have to run the GRID damper about a third from fully open as the fork can dive a bit when braking. But this is such a personal setup choice that it may not actually be a factor for you and more to do with my riding style...

Its the FOX 34 Factory, Fit4 with the new Evol air spring thing...Other option is the new Pike Debonair.

I am also leaning towards the Pike but can get the new FOX for a little bit less

I have had both and prefer the Fox 34 feel. The Pike (chassis) feels more stiff. Both are awesome and I think "against the clock" they will be almost exactly the same.

The Fox feels more linear out of the box.

Out of those 2 the Pike is the better choice for enduro / aggressive trail. Still a very reliable, stiff, hard hitting fork & the charger2 damper is excellent. Get the RCT3  Debonair version, there are lot on special at the moment with Chain Recation Cycles doing some good discounts . Change your country location to view them. You can add in a Vorsprung Luftkappe if you feel you need some more mid stroke support. If you were looking for a Fox then then Fox 36 would be a better choice over the 34 with your predicted use of Enduro / AM type terrain.

The MRP Ribbon is also an excellent fork and out ranks both the FOX 34 and the Pike IMHO. I is a brilliant fork for a 29er. There are also alot of special on 2017 Lyriks at the moment as well.

How do you ship Sram products to SA from CRC? I had to get a mate to bring mine in.

What damper is in the FOX?

I wasn`t aware that you still get the Evo Range of fox 34 2018 (unless it OEM?). Last I heard of Evo range was 2016.

If you want a lighter fork and your intention is more xc and trail riding then the Fox. If you intend on throwing in some Enduro riding I'd fo for the Pike. The Pike's chasis is also slightly stiffer - I think that can be attributed to the slightly bigger stanchions (35mm vs 34mm).

The Fox is brilliant, but I've always seen the Pike as slightly burlier and more heavy duty.

I have the Fox 34 on my XC bike, and there it is brilliant - plush where it needs to be and nice and light. But when I previously has it on my trail bike and did more aggressive riding it blew through the travel quite fast (even with tokens installed), so I had to up the air pressure which in turn cost me some small bump sensitivity - I eventually opted to get a custom tune done on the fork which made it better, but did not completely solve the problem. Once I moved it to the XC bike I fell in love with it - just feels right at home there.

There are quite a few ways to get around the issue that still saves you the money. Friends courier is always good.

Thanks....By the looks of it the new Pike Deboniar is just as light as the new Fox 34 Factory. Both around the 1.85kg mark...so weight is not the problem. As you wrote, the Pike is slightly burlier, but the Lyric took over the job as the enduro fork and Pike is more the trail option..

this thread is confusing me even more..haha.

I have both (Fox34 Factory and slightly older pike RCT3, not 2018), both 160mm 27.5, both on enduro bikes.

If I had a choice I'd go for the Pike. Much easier to service or find spares for here in SA. Most mechanics I've spoken to cringe a bit at the Fox.

Performance-wise just from overall feel, the Fox feels lekker and seems to track a bit better through bumpy corners. That said, it could also be that the bikes are setup very differently so not exactly apples-to-apples.
