The seat-tube length of 432mm is perfect for me, but the reach of 451mm is too long for me, this I can work around by using a 30mm stem. The wheelbase of 1156mm is too long for me and there is no workaround for this. Most of these new "modern geometry" bikes just does not fit me properly. The Scott Spark has a "modern geometry" where the reach and wheelbase is not too long in relation to the seatpost length.

What are you, a T-rex?

Ugly though it may be, they've finally put out a bike with proper geo.

68.5 deg HA. Yes please

451mm reach (in size M). Yes please.

Short ST, with what seems to be enough straight tubing to get a decent sized dropper in there (for when you wanna shred it)

Reasonably well sized chainstays, but not too short. Win

Modern Marathon / XC-esque top tube lengths (reach only matters when OUT of the saddle) - Can still whap a 30-60mm stem on for fine tuning fit. Good.

3 cage mounts. Great for the purpose.

Well done, Momsen. Now only if it was prettier.

I love modern geo, long stems must die a quick and painfull death. I understand it's not for everyone, but for someone like me with short legs and longer torso it works well.

I won't buy this bike, but purely because I am not in the market for a xc/marathon bike at the moment. It does tick many of the right boxes for me though and I'm glad to see it coming from an SA company...

Couple of q's...

- Will a frame only option be available?

- Does it have boost spacing?

- What size is the seat tube diameter? (ie: is it bigger than 27.2 so I can put a full size dropper on it)

- Does it have a threaded bb?

Tick those boxes (along with 2 water bottles inside main frame, some storage integration, and 120mm fork compatability, modern geo) and you have in my opinion a holy grail marathon bike.

Edit: I have to add - some toned down colours would be amazing, all black or monotone is first prize :)

Then get a small....

I will check if the small will fit, but the medium has the correct seatpost length for me. The small will have the correct reach and wheelbase but the seatpost length will be too short. If I was built more like an orangutan then these super long bikes will fit me better.

Then don't buy it. Duh. Take your moaning somewhere else.

Anyways, have I told everyone how ugly this bike is? Just yuck!

thank you - some great questions, here goes with some answers:

1. It will be FRAME only for sure -- same as when we launched the original VIPA in 2013 - let's you guys choose the spec/ build / 1x / 2 x/ Fox / RockShox / DVO / Formula / Magura / Whatever parts you dream of

2. Boost - yip, was essential

3. 31.6 - same as all VIPA's - also a common DROPPER POST size - bike is READY FOR A DROPPER

4. Threaded BB - yes, we're not a fan of those PRESSFIT disposables

Color .... hang in there - everyone seems to miss the point of the PROTOTYPE COLORS -- LOUD and PROUD was the theme - not for everyone but we got HUGE MEDIA exposure from it and are getting alot of international enquiries based on the bike not being hidden amongst the pack

all of the above info is available in the PRESENTATION BOOKLET which is downloadable from our website - we launched the bike to select media at the 2018 CAPE EPIC - guys got the full rundown on when/what/how we plan to launch the new ULTRA.

if you are ever in PE - you are welcome to come and ride one - the bike was designed to NOT look like another " epically sparky sharp thing ".

it is HARD to look unique in a market full of me-too designs. just look at the winner of the last World Cup XCO ...

All kidding and ragging aside, I do commend you all for a bike that embraces a modern approach to XC. Kudos for that.

My personal opinion is just that there is a lot of function over from going on there and that the bike is just not visually appealing to me. Too much function over form and dodgy looking finishing.

BTW, what are the expected build prices and what is the frame warranty?

All the boxes are ticked then. Really well done - will definitely be on my list when it comes time to transplant all of my xc hardtail's parts to a dual suspension frame.

I get the prototype colour thing - it makes sense, as long as I have a stealth option :)

As for looks, it may not be the prettiest bike I've seen, but I like it....

no problem with the kidding and ragging - impossible to have a bike that everyone LOVES / LIKES / WANTS TO BUY.

with this bike we have to think PROGRESSIVELY as we don't redesign our bikes at this level every other year - we design / 3D print / revise / 3D print / develop / open tooling / order stock etc. a long process in anyone's language.

Frame-Kit pricing will be confirmed next month - just waiting on some finer details as we want to ensure we get it SPOT ON - we will also market this bike globally and initially ship from SA - so that Rand Gamble is real!!!!

Frame Warranty - we will offer a 5 Year Warranty on this frame

Geometry is on point. Except for the seat tube. Too long for orangutans like me if you want to run a decent length dropper post.

Now you have me wondering whether I am one of the above mentioned orangutans, or whether you are just a dwarve?

Actually, I'm really curious about the average build for mtb marathon riders. I wonder if that has been documented somewhere?
