Hijack - i have dark horse carbon rims on TT bike. There is a small bulge on one side at brake lining. Is this n big problem? Can is till ride with it or is it time to claim from insurance? Have IM this weekend dont know what to do if it is ok or if i must swopped with road bike rims.

Thanks

No idea how big a problem it is but unless you hit a pothole or something to cause the damage it's not an insurance claim. Could be a warrantee claim if it's fairly new though.

Take it to a bike shop in PE to ask an experts advice. The last thing you need is for your race to be ruined by a broken wheel.

I recommend Cyclopro on William Moffat. Rob is regarded as one of the best wheel builders in PE, if not SA.

If you aren't in PE yet, get it off to a reputable wheel person in your area.

With something like IM, I would not take a chance. Too much time and money invested

If it's on the brake track then it just chews brake pads. Like set gone in 100km.

I'm not sure if its from a dirty brake track/pad combo, or if it's from cooking the resin. I have 2 x lightbicycle rims (45mm) that are damaged like that - so going to try sell them to a track cyclist or convert to disc wheelset.

Edit: clarification

a bulge or blister usually means delamination and therefore structural integrity is compromised?

and you want to sell to a trackie......??

Didn't think of that actually, will need to check closer... I just thought that the brake track was cooked and that the only impairment was on the brake surface - therefore could be used by a bike not using rim brakes - ie disc brakes or a track bike.
