Which carbon hardtail

What type of trails do you race on? My carbon HT is very hard work (very twitchy and unforgiving) and I don't reckon I'm faster on it on all except the smoothest of trails. I think it takes a lot of skill to be faster on a HT.

Anyway just something to think about.

Will be quite technical, such as at Voortrekker Monument, but gradients reach 15-20% so something lightweight will have to do. It will also be for less-technical marathon races. I have had an entry-level hardtail for years so I have lots of experience on that at Thaba Trails etc.

My budget restricts me to go full-sus under 10kg and I don’t see the point in going for a mid-range dual-sus if I basically have a decent dual-sus already. It is 13,5kg so quite heavy for those hills.

Have a look at the new range of Earth TE, Earth 4.0 and Earth 3.0.

completely off topic and off the material spec ... but this frame looks great in 853 steel!

Google image search was one of the top ones, then just inserted link.

One of yours?

Yeah, forgot that one was out there. Stoked to see it.

Must actually go through everything from that event from my archives. See what else I've forgotten about. Actually have a full sequence of Neff going properly OTB then.

What size frame are you looking at purchasing?

I know you are looking for a hardtail, but I am just curious, have you considered a Silverback Sesta? It is a dual-sus carbon frame bike. I have one which weighs 12.5 kg for a large with alloy stem, handlebars (780 mm) and seatpost. It is also running a 2x slx setup. You should be able to probably get it closer to 10 kg if you add 1x and more carbon bits.

There is a new Sesta frame for sale in the classifieds, you can then swop out the parts from your current dual-sus and have some money left to upgrade.

If you want to go hartail my money would be on the Kross

That is a nice idea, but I have a 650b... Things will add up.  Maybe one day when I am big.
