Python in mud ya abit of a problem but I did stage 3&4 of the Sabie xperience with them and ask anyone who did it' date=' it was WET! I didnt really struggle just abit slippery [/quote']

New Conti Race Kings cooking up a storm in Europe. A few World Champs won on Supersonic versions (Kalienkeva in particular). MTN guys apparently trying them now.

What is the lightest tubeless MTB tyres that wont cut easily ?

I suppose on the alt.sex.advice forum you're asking advice about the thinnest condom that won't rupture easily. And on the alt.autos.lawenforcement forums you're asking what's the maximum you can go over the speed limit before the lasers catch you.

Perhaps you're into cooking and want to know what's the hottest you can fire the stove before it burns your chicken pie before it's cooked on the inside.

Your question doesn't make sense and I'm amazed that so many people nevertheless answered it. MAS in action again?

If you want tubeless, go for the tubeless/ ust model. Running folding tires with thin sidewalls is only for weight weanies. Tried it, but got a deep scratch on the Nobby Nic sidewall. Sealant is uneffective on sidewalls. Run folding tires tubeless if you count yourself lucky or like pumping tires with a handpump (after you have used up your 2 CO2 bombs)

The lighter tires (tubeless) I have tried are:

Specialized Control LK 2.0: 600gram.

Crossmark 2.1: 690gram.

Monorail 2.1: 609gram.

Smallblock 8 1.95: 600gram.

Race King 2.2: 640 gram.

The Pythons are about the lightest.

Bottom line: the lightest tubeless tires are around 600 grams.

Lighter tires=more vulnerable.

Actually, what he meant to ask was "What MTB tubeless tire has the highest cut resistance/weight ratio?"

I mean, technically, that's a valid question...

Most/all XC tires are for dry hardpack. Very few tires(except dedicated mud tires) do well in mud. Check out the British websites if you are looking for MUD tires. Mud is all they have.

For the rest, stick to the tire you know.

If you looking for a good all round tire then go for the bontrager jones XR and mud tires are only good for a few days in the year here so invest in a good one if you do

about lightest and cheapest they dont go well in the same sentence at all rather go for a set of reliable mountain kings or jones XR's and you wont have issues other than with the price

if you want to save weight look at your wheels before looking at your tires seeing as your tires are what keep you riding are they not!!!!!!

Just use a normal tyre. I'm running normal michelins tyres as tubeless for a while now. Very light and it doesnt give me any problems.

I've tried most of the options - standard converted with stans, tubeless ready, and UST, and they all have their merits.

Unfortunately the thing about tubeless is that you tend to want to leave the same tyreson  for a while, given the hassle involved in changing them, so unless you've got two wheelsets you probably want something fairly versatile.

I would second the recommendation to go with a tubeless ready option like the Bontragers or Hutchinsons - other manufacturers are starting to cotton on to this approach.

Having blown standard tyres with stretched beads off the rim and broken ribs as a result, I find the stronger bead reassuring. Of course tubeless ready Pythons were R750 each at my lbs before the rand fell ...

They are slightly more fragile than true UST tyres though, so if you are doing something like the epic, and want a bit of extra insurance, it may be worth paying the weight penalty for something like crossmarks.

Of course for the road race disguised under a layer of dust, like Karroo to Coast, Stan's The Crow, at sub 400g, would probably be great.

Finally, if you want mud tyres, the Bontrager Mud X are light and absolutely awesome in slippery conditions. They  also roll suprisingly OK for something with such collosal square knobs, and work amazingly well on dry loose Table Mountain jeep track.

I've just bought a pair of Monorails, which I am hoping will outperform the Crossmarks in rear wheel traction, haven't weighed them yet.
