Fantastic spring by van Aert... I am very glad for him, pity he was not allowed more freedom in this race.Besides him, the big winner today was Team Ineos. who is in the driving seat going into the rest day.

Sags baby had to go the long way round as he got stuck in traffic...oh well still more points gained..and Buchmann moving up into 5th means that it was a good day out for Bora.

So this is what happened to Landa.. unfortunate cause he was riding well..but ended up losing chunks of time because of the fall and the wind he ended up far behind and needed to wait for a new bike.

This all kicked off just as the peloton split for a big roundabout. Some of the lead riders fell back by 20 or 30 meters in seconds by going the long way around that roundabout.

They should have know, it was clear in the roadbook that this was the only long straight and fairly open stretch in the last part of the stage. As they already tried echelons earlier should have seen it coming. Lovely stage passing through my back yard.

Rode it a couple of weeks ago with the ou ballies and yesterday again with the lovely ladies from https://www.donnonsdeselles.net/donnons-des-elles-au-velo-j-1 There is an international group this year also.

Today my boss looked at me and said Maarten you working this afternoon? You can go and catch some fresh air early afternoon if you feel the need. So by quarter to three I hopped 500m through a field to go and watch the stage come by before strolling back into the office ;) half an hour later.

Can't wait until they start show all the ladies races live. It's such a great time for women cycling with the riders who are at the top. Gutted the Rosa wasn't shown live apparently it's put most mens races to shame for there guts, combatively and entertainment.

So, the commentators started talking about Allaphillipe and his GC ambitions today.

In 2018 he was clearly targeting the King of the Mountains classification, yet still finished a respectable 33rd on GC, 1h30 odd behind.

After tasting yellow for so long, would he forgo any stage targeting attacks and try to hang on to the GC train to see how high he can finish? That epic mountain top finish he stuck with the GC okes and attacked at the end was mightily impressive. He might somehow hold on to a top 10 finish? No?

Tiz Cycling had a live broadcast of the Giro Rosa for each stage.
