Ironman with no Training

No training isn't really accurate though. That's like a fit runner competing in a bike race and saying they didn't train - sure you didn't train specifically for the event - but you are training/keeping fit.

Kudos to the guy, I won't finish an Iron Man now, but the title of the article is a bit misleading.

Yep. I've done 2 full IMs. Really not that hectic at all. The swim is p1ss. The bike, meh. Anyone can ride 180km on a roadbike. The run, run where you want, walk where you want. You'll finish.

What IS fkin tough though, is a 100 miler trailrun. I've done a few of those as well. Makes Ironman look feel like a saturday morning parkrun.

They do indeed... I have done a fair few and the introspection is quite something.

Being alone for hours on end makes it different to even super long AR's.

The Basque Country 100 miler had me puking on myself and crying about 20km from the end. I had a little lie down, ate some doughnuts and realised I wasn't going to die. I stayed there for over an hour trying to get my wits together!

180km on the bike at IM is definately the one place where 'vasbyt' means more than experience. The sit bone pain on an untrained butt must be intense. BUT, with all that elevation loss he probably spent some time aerotucking on his Top tube.... I hope his mates bike wasn't a Canyon!
