Hi Guys and Girls, as a Sports Conditioning Coach I just wanted to know, of all the guys and ladies out there, that hit the gym (as crosstraining) now and again, who of you incorporates squats into there routines..

During winter i do but not in the summer before races, your legs need resting, but hit it hard in the gym in the off season.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I'm the same...winter focus more on gym and summer give it more of a rest due to all the racing!!

Realised not so long ago that power is one of my weaknesses now so am doing lots of squats and other stuff!!

dont believe it helps at all, but I am not a sprinter!

Endurance seems to be my problem and how hard i can push for a few seconds is meaningless.

That being said I do a few leg raises on the 'circuit' LOL

I do some in Winter, with medicine ball, you should know and then 'goin-up' on the wunda chair(pilates equipment) Its part of my all round training, but main emphasis is still to try and work out the Core....

I do squats when I'm weight training.

Considering the large number of muscles involved in doing a squat with good form, no weight training program would be complete without them.

Never do squats in the gym. Tried it and found the time it takes to go to gym, do the exercises ect..was better spent doing cycling specific exercises at home.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I do have a slight variation on the gym squat (jeezh squat is a ugly word...) that I like to do at my home gym, this is a great exercise as it works your CORE AND STABILZING MUSCLES at the same time.

Basically involves doing squats without weights but instead of standing on the floor you stand on a balance board. Once your balance becomes good enough then you can add a variation by throwing a ball against a wall and catching it while doing the squat motion. You can also do the same thing but on one leg (just don?t squat as far as you can with both legs).
