Yes I know them, they are training for the munga, they do stick mostly to gravel roads, on this specific occasion they were riding out to the Koster area

Relax dude. If they want to cycle at 1am that's up to them. No skin off my nose. I just wondered what they were training for at that time of night...and I'll stand by my sketchy comment. It's dangerous enough being on the roads in the daytime let alone in the absolute dark on a Saturday night on quiet rural road that also has no shoulder. Drivers are liable to be both speeding and have had a couple of drinks in them..I saw the bike lights some distance away but quite honestly the lights aren't enough to keep you safe sadly.

 

I most certainly don't condone drinking and driving. To make some extra money in life I work part time as a barman over weekends at a venue that serves over 300 odd people. Most guests arrive in buses and have designated drivers but a lot don't, they arrive in their own vehicles...Oct/Nov is corporate year end function time so naturally the grog flows freely when the company pays. People have had their keys taken away from them before but unfortunately its simply impossible to check everyone before they leave...

It was the riders doing the 300km Audax. They start at 00:01 so that they can be done at a reasonable time. They also set off early to avoid the Sunday afternoon traffic going back to Joburg.

Gee,if thats the road that goes through Koster and Derby its very dangerous in the daytime let alone at night.I drove it for many years and hated it.
