947 mtb race chip mounting. Where?

No number boards for the race. We are using the small Racetec road event timing chip. That's fine. But what is a convenient place to mount the chip that is designed to attach to the standard 9mm QR.. My front axle is 15mm and the (old style) rear axle is not a good place to mount it, should we have rain and we get lots of mud. Ditto the crank arm.

Zip-tie it to the front suspension stantion, probably. Put it in my sock?...could become irritating. How high can it be mounted on the bike before the timing mat fails to read the signal??

Any suggestions, rude or otherwise?

Velcro strap onto your right ankle - always worked - rain or muddy/dusty! no hassle. Easy to take off when you do need to use the bike board again. Bought Velcro straps from Sportsman’s WH.

I have a 15mm TA and have mounted it on fork stantion with cable ties , if you get it in a position very similar to where it would be quick release it will be fine

For mtb rather keep the chip on your ankle or shoe - less likely to get klapped by a bush/branch etc. when you take a spill ????

RACE NUMBERS

Your race number along with cable ties is located in your race pack envelope. Please attach the race number securely to the front of your handlebars. Attach your numbers when you get to the venue to avoid losing your number on the way to the event. Please ensure that you ride with the race number assigned to you, as this contains critical information for the organisers, and is VITAL in the case of emergency as well as for the provision of accurate results. You may be disqualified if you are riding with another person‘s number.
