Call for help - rear wheel for a hit and run victim

One of the interns (post grad at UCT) at work got taken out by a hit and run driver near Somerset Mall. He has opened a case at SAPS with witnesses etc.

I am trying to help him fix the bike - I am hoping to find a not too expensive rear wheel (Shimano body) to buy. He bought the bike used for R1500.

The bike is his preferred means of transport - for example he cycled in to Cape Town and back from Somerset to go hike Table Mountain. (Uber trips are too expensive from here)

Has somebody perhaps got a rear wheel to sell?

I have a wheel with white spokes and shimano freehub that I would be willing to give him.

If he is happy to pay for postage, he can have the wheel for free - wheel includes tube and 23mm gatorskin.

i do actually have a rim which he can have free, but I am in JHB. So shipping it down there will be costly so I'm not sure if its worth it... Unless somebody willing to carry a rim down to Cape Town from Johannesburg?

Otherwise it will be better for a local to provide something.

Those shifters look pretty beat up, Especially that right shifter. was this also caused by the accident or is it just perhaps the angle of the pic?
