Good mate of mine in Bothasig Cape Town had his garage broken into on Sunday night and his Orbea full suspension MTB stolen.

They left the road bike,  so it sounds like a ride away job

Unfortunately no pics of the bike, but it was a blue frame with distinctive square shaped chainstay in an orange color. SRAM Groupset, with twist grip shifters.

Very few of these around, in fact his is the only one I've seen, so if you see one in the CT area, please PM me

lesson to be learnt, who has the BB numbers (ie the number on the BB) written down somewhere safe? ?I admit I don't, but we all should. ?How many bike shops keep registers off the bicycles they sell, just in case? ?How many shops "check out" bikes of clients that ?suddenly bring bikes for services (especially when they were not clients, or did not obtain the bike from the shop)? ?Do bike shops consult with one another when such a dodgy client comes in? ?(ie I have a brand new trek here, which a school kid has just brought in, it is a bit strange. ?You guys sell trek in PTA, here are is details, and the bikes details, ring any bells?) ?Do the local cash converters do the checks they supposed to? ?I have mate who lost a bike, only to discover a kid cycling it, who claimed that his dad bought it from cash converters. ?To prevent crime, the community will have to stand together to make the "turn over" of stolen goods more difficult.

Good luck on finding the bike.

Sad part is that my mate has no pics of the bike, and he never recorded the serial number.

But it's a very distinctive frame and design, even re-sprayed, he would recognise it.

I think right now he is taking pictures of his other bikes and recording the serial numbers!!!

Not Guilty KonaFan!

First thing I do with a new bike is some photos, and record the serial number.

As you said not many people do bother with this until it's tooo late.

Unfortunately my mate is one of them!!

Not to hijack.

My car was broken into and they stole a pair of binoculars.

Saw them at the local Cash Crusaders and when I pointed out to the manager they were mine he had some weak excuse about how they got them.

Worst part was my name was engraved on them,  which "Still doesnt necessarily make them yours sir."

dealing in stolen goods is a criminal offence.  THE police have in the past squashed some pawn shops because they were fences for criminal syndicates

best way to recognize the bike is to look for a black full sus bike, a houseworker on it and a few pumps, stickers, cd's in the rims and the brake cables are loosen and the bike isn't supose to have brake levers on it anymore! they brake with their feet!

sorr for the loss dude

Yep Aedon, have told him to keep an eye out at the local Cash Crusaders.

Although ID is requested, I doubt if it is always demanded.
