Linksfield Drive Hill training

I've done that hill once.  Once.

Seriously though, been meaning to look at putting together a loop around that area as I don't have the luxury of disappearing for a 4-5 hour ride plus commute time.  This hill and the others mentioned here will make a nice addition to said route.

There are also some bastard roads in Bedfordview. Kloof, Kings, Florence and Townsend. Link those up to AG De Witt and you will be suffering!

Link up with the BL guys when they go out there. Linksfield, switchbacks, cobbles, June street,  Shakespeare ave,Sovereign,Churchill, Makro hill.

IMO not quite Suikerbosrand but still good leg workout.

I’d rather do it alone.

My pace

My suffering

My solitude.

Am I crazy to be looking forward to giving this a go?

Perhaps a little, but its a necessary evil, around 1100m climbing

Saves you the 100km+ driving to and from suikerbos though. I very seldom go ride somewhere that requires more driving than I will actually ride while there. Excluding races obviously.

That route of yours is proper, do that once a week and you will get strong up the climbs(provided it's not all you do).

Sovereign Road. That hill still gives me nightmares. Lived just off of it as a kid and always ended our local rides going up there. Was always torture!

Is that Sylivia's Pass by any chance?

No. If you go passed bedford gardens and then turn left at the robot. I can't explain the exact surrounding here but can ride there no problem. Think there is a complex on the right at the robot. It's basically behind bedford gardens.

Wrong side of the valley.

Sovereign is about a block away from Bedfordview Hospital.  It's the hill behind heading up into Malvern.  The complex is Wedgewood where one of Radavan's colleagues got retired.   :whistling:

That's it. I didn't know about the "retirement party" but now I remember the name of the complex. Its written in green.

I've heard about the hill at the end of Linksfield drive.

Yesterday I mapped a route that included this (as well as other hills in the area) to do some hill training.

Has anyone done the hill recently ? what are the conditions and safety like ?

And what is the climb like ? Komoot puts it at a 10% gradient in some sections.

It's a decent climb and as everyone has mentioned, it's relatively safe and quiet with the booms.

I did an everest accent on this hill - I never want to see this hill again...

Flip, how many reps did it take?
