Geometry Question

All the set back post is doing is altering the effective seat tube angle for you.

There isn't a rule to these things.

If you opt for a bigger size frame (XL) then you may need to move the saddle forward and shorten the stem to keep your reach the same.

Is the 25mm set back post creating problems for you physically?

Back and core work for you then....

What length stem do you have ATM tho? I'd say that on an epic your range should be between 40&80 max (up from my 60/70 max for trail bikes cos it's an xc weapon)

HAHA I wish, due to car accident years ago I had disctectomy l5/S1 to I am as flexible as a carboon seatpost Atm I have a 110mm stem on Epic 2015 Large

No but I want to run a dropper and can not get one with setback and longer than 100mm

Ok I understand. Yes a dropper with set back is going to create a lot of wear on the front and back of the shaft.

How far back is the saddle mounted on the post craddle?

Maybe post a side pic of the bike?

Ok Thanks. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but I personally think that bike is too small for you.

Clues:

1) saddle is in the centre of the rails whilst set back is 25mm

2) is that a 100mm or 110mm stem?

3) bar is angled upward reducing the back sweep and thus lengthening the cockpit.

handlebar height is probably ok but stem can be flipped to reduce the spacers needed but you will likely need a stem 1cm longer to compensate for the shortening of the reach.

I would not fit a dropper to the bike in current configuration.

100% agreed, apart from teh no dropper.

Quagga, your bike is too small for you. End of story. Size up to the XL and play with the saddle position and stem length. Don't go longer than you currently have, I'd recommend going shorter.

From teh pics, it doesn't look as if you NEED a 25mm set-back, as your rails aren't yet at the max rearward position. You could get away with a normal dropper, or one with a slight set-back on the top, but it may not be necessary. What IS necessary is getting you a longer bike. Longer reach and top tube measurements will benefit you massively.

Only reason I;m not in favour of a dropper is that its a 27.2mm seat post and with the amount of leverage on it it's going to wear out very quickly

The new Epics have a fatter seat tube and run 30.9 posts now I believe.

OP, check out the Epic Evo which comes with a dropper and a bit more fork for the rough stuff.

Rode that bike and could not walk for 2 days after due to the TT feeling cramped. Back tighten up
