Is it possible to build up an enduro Hard Tail for Bike Packing?

Hey guys

So i somehow got talked into bike packing up to Afrika Burn this year, which is a solid 420km on dirt roads

I have a shitty size small 1994 trek which i converted into my cycle touring bike, which has served me well for over night camps to like yzerfontein and back, but im worried it will fall apart on this journey

I do how ever have a nice steel enduro hard tail which would be waaaay more comfortable (27.5 commencal meta HT)

This might be a stupid question but is there rear bike rack system that will fit a through bolt axle hub? (12mm)

There is this Topeak Beamrack that would be the next best option but my kit will be significantly higher then the 9kg limit it recommends:

Im going to attempt to make my own frame bag and tie some stuff to my handle bars but the majority of gear is going to be over the back wheel

Any help / tips will be greatly appreciated!

I've got zero advice for you, but I'l be following this thread - I am very keen for a multi-day bike packing trip on my Solaris and may use some of the advice provided.

Update with pics as you go along!

Don't use that beam rack.  I had one and gave it away. 9 kg will not be too  safe as they swing and will damage the seat post.  (Heaven forbid if you have a carbon seat post.)

Thanks for the heads up!

I think on my last ride my gear came closer to 20kg so is a definite no then.

Seatpost isn't carbon, it's a 150mm giant dropper

Oh and forgot to mention earlier that the rear hub is non boost (142x12) if that helps anyone...

Posted a pic of the actual bike i intend of using for fun also.

A friend of mine had similar problem. Also he didnt wanna invest in the trekking kits.

After alot of googling I found a plastic crate system. Basically u cant the crate in half and then fit the one into the other and cable tie together and onto the frame.

Apidura makes great bags for multi-day bike packing.

Their frame bag will also fit inside an MTB with slack geometry.

What I like most about these bags is that they are easy to mount.
