Looking at this frame

Ive arranged to meet up tomorrow with a hubber selling this frame (2015 epic), but i just want some advice. Its missing the rear thru axle, as well as a number of pivot bolts. Since the bike shops are all closed today, i just wanted to get an idea of how much its gonna cost me to get these parts cause i have no idea. Also, you guys think 5k for it as is is a bargain? And dont hijack it now.

Dont know much about the bolts etc, but by my understanding, that is a 2014 frame or lower.

Maybe just wait until the bike shops are open tomorrow and do your due diligence. Make sure and make an informed decision.

Rear axles where around R700 when I was looking for 1 for my Stumpy. Pivots bolts could also be made up if necessary from most engineering shops might be cheaper than agents.

good deal if the brain has had all its due services ( seller should hae the history )

 

Rear axle and pivot bolts will prolly set you back around 2.5k from agents if you buy just an axle and have the bolts made then maybe under 1k 

 

 

check carefully for cracks 

 

and yes that seems like A much older epic ( 2015 and 2014 below , 2014 has the red lines )

I wouldn't touch the frame before you know exactly how much the replacement parts will cost, knowing Spez they may either be unavailable or cost more than gold. And if that shock if stuffed you may as well right off the whole investment because last I checked spares and repairs on Brain shocks is something crazy, around R2500 just for a service.

Also why are parts missing, especially the pivot bolts?

Could be someone may have started rebuilding the frame and then got cold feet as the costs became more apparent..

That frame looks well used so check properly for any cracks.

If the current owner purposefully misrepresented the year model to you, I would apply the when in doubt, leave it out rule.

That's a 2013 or older frame.

 

The 2014 model onwards has two bottle cage mounts, where as the earlier versions only have one.

Also very obvious by looking at the area where the top tube and seat tube connects, as well as lack of internal routing. But i only realised after i asked here. These forums are the best for advice!

It's a 2012 model I doubt they will stock such old parts will most likely have to be special ordered.

Best is find out if you can get and the price.

After all the recent roubles I'd also check the seller's rating.

Definitely not sounding like an asshole, i agree, i always look at ratings. But the seller has none. You can see his ad, its on the hub. Just search epic, you'll find it first page.
