Children with Hope Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Hi Everyone. We want to start a race once a year to help us raise funds for children with brain injuries, the equipment the children need is very expensive. I look at two options, we are from Nylstroom 120km from Pretoria. The first option is 240 km in 24 hours or maybe 36 hours, a endurance race. The second option is a 3 day race, each day 85 to 95 km from Botswana border to Nylstroom. Both routs are district gravel roads in the Waterberg. If you have a choice will it be a tough 24 hour route or a more relax 3 day outing?
RobertWhitehead Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 I recon you'll raise more cash with a 24h than a 3 day. It also depends on how tough you want to make the 240km . I will gladly support the race if you get it off the ground

If you have a choice will it be a tough 24 hour route or a more relax 3 day outing? If you have only district and gravel roads it is very much suited to an ultra endurance 24hr race. Look at 36One - stunning race on just district road, if it were a 3 day stage race I can garruantee everyone would complain about the fact that the route isn't more interesting. Adapt the race to what you have. Also consider a gravel bike category, there has been a big rise in their poppularity and it seems like your route may be suited to it. Good luck, seems like a great cause. Oh, just one tip - look at events like 36One and Trans Baviaans, they have the ultra endurance race category dialed.

Thanks for the input.I will appreciate it if you guys can give me some pointers on how a 24 hour race works, the do's and don'ts....
