Your seat has already dropped

Is this a 1x issue?

more like a "kort bene" issue ...

If the last 12 months is any indication, then probably another 4 months before he can ride the Mongoose.

Well, he can actually pedal it ... :whistling:  but stopping poses a few logistical problems ....  :excl:

never had a chain ring clearance issue with a 26er when in 1x mode. How come you a problem or more specifically what was the problem

jokes aside ...

NO issue with our conversion.  Currently a 32 in front.  Visually a 36 may possibly cause clearance issues, though this is a non-issue for us at this stage.

Buy the 36 oval and if it doesnt fit sell it to me, been looking for one! And i agree on the 36t, with a 50 tooth you can still really climb but you have that top end i feel like most mtbs are missing out on (except for the 9t and 10t cassettes). I run a 36 round with a 11-42 and even that is fine with me.

Actually did fit the 50mm stem

Makes a BIG difference in the way he sits on the bike !!

Shortened the cables to suit.  Really looks nice

Nice, perfect. Yeah the difference would be huge. Now you guys can just put the seat back and higher as he grows. Happy riding.

i could never see the appeal of a 1x setup.

But the new road bike has taken me from a 3x8 to a 2x11 with the small chain-ring effectively only there for really steep climbs, so you're basically using it like a 1x with an "in case of emergency" gear, what a pleasure to only have to worry about the rear gears.

And then when on a MTB I can imagine not having the complexity of a front derailleur also makes things so much simpler.

Complexity of a front derailleur

Pardon my very old school sense of humour

I wouldn't really call either a FD or dropper complex :)

I would put it more as useless relic replaced by the best thing to happen to mtbs in the last 10 years.
