NoordHoek Peak- Safe enough from muggers?

I haven't cycled in Tokai for a while now and want to plan a ride which includes Noordhoek peak.

I'm confident that Tokai, below Silvermine Dam is safe enough. However, not many cyclists tend to go up as far as Noordhoek Peak so it remains a little isolated.

Has there been any incidents up there recently or is it safe enough for myself and a mate to tackle the challenge?

Thanks in advance

No incidents there at all.  I go up there by myself all the time (was even there this morning) and haven't seen anyone at all who was up to no good.  I feel completely safe there.

Good to hear. Thanks. I'll still take my pepper spray. Just in case  :w00t:

I think the Noordhoek Peal loop is fine, along with the Tokai side. I am not so sure about the Ou Wa Pad side though...

I go up Ou Wapad each time on my way to and from Noordhoek Peak.  No issues there either.  There's only been one mugging there which I'm aware of and it was about three years ago when there were lots of muggings all over the place.

The rains on Tuesday have made it pretty washed out and more fun :)

Cyle to the gate, then up the tar road towards the dam.

At the first parking lot, instead of turning left, turn right and cycle through the parking area.

The trail will present itself to you. then the pain starts :cursing:

In short, as others have confirmed, there has not been an incident since 18 June 2017.

The last incidents both happened on the same day and in close proximity of each other at the Blackburn Rivine summit, as you make your way up from Hout Bay - the track has deep sand so it's not conducive to cycling.

The long story is that the muggings and coordination between ourselves (TokaiMTB) and SANParks prompted additional SANParks patrols and soon SANParks Honorary Rangers also got involved. The area get's foot and vehicle patrols on a regular basis. Over two years without incident is a good result but stay aware of your surroundings, anywhere you go..

The patrols have been second to none. I see the car going up to the mast every Saturday and Sunday. I have also seen the rozzers on horse back. Friendly bunch.

We were able to motivate a lot off the back of those patrols .. get it?

The horses were as a result of connecting the right people to speak to the right people who in turn invited us to sit in on meetings to motivate additional volunteer saps quads and horse back patrols. We certainly didn't invent anything but having the knowledge of how it all worked in 2009 on hand helped a stack!

We're there Tuesdays and Thursdays too for the weekday regulars, and just as well, coz we hooked the tsotsi's on a Thursday right before the only rider for the day made his way up. His eyes when he saw them cuffed on the ground... priceless.
