Probably best to make sure with the specific insurer of their "requirement of proof" in the event of a claim ..... and probably best to do this at the time of getting the quote

 

 

 

 

too many horror stories of refuted claims, or part payments due to "insured values" being questioned after the fact

Get the paperwork in order before you claim, it will just make things easier should youn run into a problem. If getting a valuation is difficult propper photographs will help more than no info at all.....just remember use new replacement values for all the parts!!

Im with Santam, my STR is insured for replacement value, which is just over R20k. I insured mine for R19 999.99, no proof of purchase is required, just proof of ownership. I took detailed photo's of each part of the bike, plus 2 selfies of myself next to the bike, sent to broker and he's got it on record.

 

PS. When insuring for replacement value, make sure what the parts cost. These SS toys of ours cost a lot more to build than we would ever like to admit!!!

A simple thing like a set of tyres, sealant, valves and rim tape alone is close to R2000.00 ... now add wheels and the rest of what encompasses a bike and it gets pricey quickly!

Yah it's insane!!!! Issue however is that many of the guys build up a project with secondhand parts, making it hard to get certificates or proof of purchase, hence me finding out at what value you need slips

 

With that being said I am miles out of pocket and will most likely be able to replace my bike with second hand parts for R20k. Rapide rims laced onto Hope hubs, incl tyres, are most likely around R10k alone these days

For how much did you end up putting it on for?

 

Just did the calculation for mine, will cost me around R24k to replace... This is for parts only and excludes any import costs (postage etc) if I cannot find the parts local.

10k.. I think your components are higher end than mine though..

Will definitely take for a more accurate valuation..

It totals up extremely quick. I see the frame alone is R5500.00.

 

My build is:

Momsen STR: R5500.00

Hope hubs, cheap'ish spokes, rapide rims, Vittoria tyres: I reckon this is around R8k.

Carbon fork: R3500.00

XT brakes: R3300.00

Brooks seat: R1300.00

Crankset (SLX): ?????

Cockpit: R2000.00

Chain: R150.00
