Hi, I want to upgrade my 3x drivetrain to 1x. I want to take my bike to a bikeshop and ask them for advice on how to go about doing it as I tried reading about it but there are to many things to understand. I assume it will cost a penny so I also want to know what cost I'm in for. Any advice on which bikeshop I can go to in Cape Town where i can get proper advice and the most cost effective way of doing it.

As for LBS, go to one you trust.

As for price. Anything from R6.5k onwards for new Sram GX and up.

I upgraded a 3x10 to 1x10 just by changing the chainring.

Thanx, unfortunately my chainring is one of those that cant be altered, the 3 are fixed.

You need a crank and a bb + chainring.

R6500, why??? if you are able to spend R6500 on GX, chances are buying a new bike would be on your radar, not upgrading your 3x10.

 

heres my idea of a budget 3x10 to 1x10 conversion:

10 spd 11-46 Sunrace cassette from Evobikes = R799

goatlink extender (if needed) from Rapide = R189

chain                                                          = R400

Total                                                           = R1388

 

you can buy a new crank/bb from rapide too and still not come close to spending R6500...

Solomons is running a sale atm, Sram NX eagle upgrade going for R3750. thats just the cassette, derraileur, shifter and chain. add Rapide crankset and STILL not R6500...
