Desi Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 I am having trouble getting the Tacx app (as opposed to the old Tacx Trainer Software) to 'find' my trainer. The Tacx Utility app can also not find the trainer. I started by trying the RGT Cycling app - that couldn't find my trainer, so I thought that the Tacx app might. No luck so far. Is my old trainer incompatible? Has anyone managed to link their Tacx Genius to the new app?
fanievb Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 make sure no other devices are trying to connect to your phone's BT.I had the same issue with a flux that refused to connect via the utility app, eventually disconnected all other BT connections on the phone as was able to connect. DieselnDust 1

But lets roll back a bit. What device are you are using to establish the connection?
Desi Posted March 23, 2020 Author Posted March 23, 2020 My current setup is a laptop, the Tacx Genius, and the old Tacx Trainer Software 4. It all works, but as Tacx have stopped supporting that software, I thought I'd finally move to the app. Tried the new desktop app on the same laptop: app can't 'see' my trainer.Tried the new desktop app on a different laptop: app can't see my trainer.Tried loading the Tacx Update Utility on my phone to see if I could update the trainer software: the app can't see my trainer.I can load the old app on an old tablet - and it can see my trainer, but I can't load the new app on the old tablet 'this app is not compatible with your device'. I am now making my way through all the bluetooth connectivity problem articles I can find!
DieselnDust Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 assuming the Genius you have is the T2080 model it connects to laptop via ANT+ via a dongle or BTsmart so you should not be having a connectivity problem. Have you tried switching off the WiFi router and other internet broadcasting devices in the house too allow the app to identify the trainer clearly (as fanie suggested)?

Bloutand is known to give issues connecting with a trainer and keeping the connection. Some laptops / PC's don't even work anymore. I have an ASUS i7 laptop and the bloutand does not even register. So I went nowhere!I suspect that the trouble is on the actual trainer itself - I don't think it's talking to anything else, bluetooth or otherwise.So no luck so far. I'll try again tomorrow. Otherwise this Covid isolation thing is going to be extremely frustrating!Thanks for the help so far, guys!

Desi Posted March 23, 2020 Author Posted March 23, 2020 Unfortunately I have found an answer, but not one that I like. Seems like I'm on the old Tacx software for now, as I'm not keen to buy an expensive new trainer.

I thought it might be an older model T2020 but you termed it a Genius Smart so assumed its the T2080.Suggest you just keep using TS4. Desi Posted March 23, 2020 Author Posted March 23, 2020 I turned the whole contraption over to find a serial number, and discovered that I have a T2021. It claims to be 'Smart', but obviously not very . Oh well, at least the old TS4 still works. Thanks for the help, guys!

I started with RGT Cycling, because they've just announced that it is now free during this Corona crisis. That's when I discovered the old bluetooth problem, but will give a couple of the others a go.
