Red Bird Posted May 17, 2020 Share I met my first Epic partner in January 2005 when the race was forst wek in April. I didn't have a mtb yet either. He was also foreign. we go talong just fine. No need for all the partner gelling crap. It's not a marriage, just a biek and two people have to have the same agenda. i.e to finish. We had a blast, a real proper blast. Don't overthink it.I've seen marriages and best friends break up at the Epic. Peeps spend far too much time worrying about the relationship than their own fitness and mental preparedness.Noted thanks. Will take in all advice I can. Ultimately we will need to adapt to the circumstances day to day DieselnDust and BigDL

If you need to vent find a quiet place like behind a tree at the top of of a hill while your team mate is catching up. One of you will need to vent. arendoog Posted May 17, 2020 Share Noted thanks. Will take in all advice I can. Ultimately we will need to adapt to the circumstances day to dayIt is not that complicated .Train consistently . Quality is better than quantity .If you have a good base you are already halfway there .If there is mutual respect and expectations on both sides ,you will have a very enjoyable week .It is a great experience .Don,t stress ,panic or overtrain .No epic for me in 2021 Edited May 17, 2020 by arendoog Red Bird
W Smith Posted May 18, 2020 Share All in as well. Got an entry end of January. At least I can train properly this time and build up strong team dynamics. Been coached in cross-country for 18 months now, but stage racing is a little bit different. Didn’t know my partner that well by March yet. We have same pace and goal - to enjoy the adventure - but we still need to work on personality differences. More time together on the bike. When you have Epic fever you can easily become irrational. We have Covid 19 worldwide and no cure yet .Some scientists say it will take 18 months to 2 years to get a vaccine an then you still have to spread the vaccine world wide. Do you honestly believe that the Epic will take place in 2021?Don't you watch the news ? Do you really believe the government will allow 1200 people of various nationalities to converge for 7 days at a particular spot to race daily and to share common water points ,ablutions facilities a communal lounge and eating place? Do you honestly believe that the "guarantee" by the organisers to pay back your entry fee or to apply it to the 2022 Epic if the the 2021 Epic is cancelled will materialise? And what if he organisers of the Epic goes bust ,due the the worldwide ban to organise mass events Do you honestly believe that the so called "gurantee" will result in a full refund: Have you ever been a concurrent creditor who submitted a claim against an insolvent estate? Watch this space... Organisers will test every competitor before they are allowed to participate. Someone is going to be making a lot of money selling test kits. Entering epic for 2021 is a risk. I think like gambling in a casino you are an idiot if you are throwing your families lunch money at a roulette wheel. The people who have put their money into it now can hopefully all afford to lose it. They are really good supporters of the organisation, but I hope there aren't guys who have seen the cheaper price and jumped at the opportunity and almost bankrupted themselves in the process. Fitbull Posted May 18, 2020 Share I think as a rider who had entered the 2020 Epic it is a bit of a no brainer to take up the option for 2021. By getting the 75% reduction on the entry fee you end up paying in just over R11k/pp and you have an entry for 2021. If 2021 gets cancelled your entry is rolled over to 2022 and there are no additional fees, all happy! Yes there is a risk of the company going insolvent/filing for bankruptcy in the event that 2021 cannot go ahead but I imagine they will have insurance for this but who knows. By not taking up the option of the 2021 entry the best you might get out of cape epic is a 50% voucher that you can only carry over to 2022/23 anyway thereby losing the additional 25% discount being offered for 2021. And if they go bang well you have lost the voucher anyway. As someone who didnt enter the 2020 Epic you arent trying to "recover" any kind of original outlay so entering for 2021 is more of a risk. TeamBaja Posted May 19, 2020 Share My take is, the epic and the rest of the world will happen in 2021. The human race is super resilient, the ironman group won't go broke. The 55 available entries sold in like 2 seconds. See you there, time to go and train. From the other side of the world. arendoog
