Hi All

So Next week sometime my Elite Suito will be delivered and it comes standard with a 105 11-speed 11-36 Cassette

The bike I will be using on the trainer is my HT MTB running a SRAM XG1150 11-speed 10-42

Would it be fine running that cassette or should I rather just replace it with a Sunrace or Shimano 11-42 11-speed

This is my 1st direct drive trainer so would apreciate some advice in this regard. Thanks

I would wait before pulling the trigger on a new cassette.

11-36 is plenty on a trainer. I have an 11-42 for my mtb and an 11-28 for my roadie (only coz my mtb is 10 speed) that I use on the trainer and I never ever use the 42. Ever.

If you're doing workouts you aren't going to change gear. the trainer will take care of the resistance so you just crunch away. Also if you use zwift there's a thing called trainer difficulty. It's not actually trainer difficulty it basically changes the gear ratio of your virtual bike giving you the effect of a wider ratio cassette.

Yea I personally dont want to buy another cassette tbh. I was more wondering if the deraleur would be fine running a smaller cassette without me having to adjust the B/C screws. Never used a 105 cassette so not sure

I believe it will be fine, but I am not 100% sure

I'm also not sure :)

you probably wont use more than 3-4 sprockets, okay maybe 5-6 if you really want to push high power at a low cadence. so sould be fine.

give it a try, if it doesnt work sell the 105 cassette and get what you need.

@MTB-More I hope you don’t mind me bolting my question onto yours, somewhat similar matter. New IDT came with 11-28 sunrace road cassette. I’d prefer to use my HT MTB, currently running a SRAM GX 11-50.

Question: do I

1) run the current 12sp chain on the 11spd road cassette

2) install an old but decent condition 11-42 XT 11 spd MTB cassette

3)get a 12spd MTB cassette

Hoping to avoid buying new cassette. Advice would be much appreciated. Thank you

My IDT does NOT play nice with 11-speed 105 cassette and my wife’s 10-speed XT MTB hooked up.

I’ve resorted to leaving her bike in one gear and running some pre-sorted workouts created in ERG mode. Not ideal but she’s not interested in Zwift gaming etc.

Don't mind at all. Wanted to kind of get to the same conclusion with either running 1. and just using the road cassette on the MTB or to just get a cheap MTB cassette.

I might gravitate to getting the cheap MTB cassette.

Thanks, already got 2 11-42 spares XT cassettes & a third xx1 10-50 on the dual sus so trying to work out most effective yet efficient for mob training.
