Have mine for 5years now. Had the control board and battery checked by exposure UK recently. Good for another 5years.

been through many Chinese lights as back ups.

Also have an old Lupine Edison HID and a few Nightlightning Endunrenz lights. All in perfect working order. Lifecycle cost has been lower than any of the cheaper lights

No man. Buy 17 cheap ones and throw them in the bin with your SRAM brakes when they stop working.

Servicing is for plebs.

I know what was I thinking. It's so cool to have a box of junk in the garage that I'll never use but at least I exposed my credit card to the interwebs 17 times for the same junk. Maybe the 18th one will work out fine.

I don't want to cast doubt on our local light supplier, heck I also own one  :whistling:, but here's my opinion. And again, this is my opinion:

I have a cheap chinese light which I purchased back in 2013. I call this thing "the sun" as it throws 1800 Lumen and the beam is very wide. Ya on it's brightest setting it only lasts 02:30 but then again I do have 3 batteries.

Now back to our local supplier: In 2016 I bought a 900lm light from them just before the Trans. I tested it a few times prior to the race and off we went. We had some mechanicals during the race so we had to get some lights going on Fangs. The moment I pressed the button my light popped. We then decided to ride to Bergplaas as we were aware that they had a stand (we just did not know where).

We got to Bergplaas and they were only at CP5 so we pulled the plug as I left my "cheap chinese light" at home.

Got to CP5 and they took my light and fixed it, no questions asked even shipped it back to Gauteng free of charge (that was really cool of them). Fast forward now to the 2019 Trans and again I took the EL light and kept the "cheap chinese light" in the box at CP5 (You see that I learnt my lesson). Needless to say we finished the race and I did not need to use the CCL. My battery ran out 5km before the end and I had to "maak 'n plan" to get to the end. So what's the point of this post?

The battery did not run out, the connection on the inside of the battery broke off (apparently this was what happened to the light in 2016 as well)

But my impression about the light it gives me even on the full 900lm is not great, I find the light is concentrated to a patch right in front of you and it doesn't give you a "wide angle" view. This to me is not something I enjoy much, to me it's very important to be able to see something (like an animal) running from out the veld quicker than just the 2 or so meter dot directly in front of me.

Will I buy an EL again - definitely yes. Their products are great and it does come with good after sales service. But I will add more light to the bar light (I normally use a headlamp as well but in 2019 I left it off). Next year I am planning to use the CCL and use the EL as back up along with a HL
