If you have the older Garmin sensors then you would need the ANT+ dongle.

The new Speed/Cadence 2 sensors have bluetooth

It's the newer bluetooth ones afaik. The one that wraps around the hub and then one that goes on the crank. My older one was different, had the little sensor on the chainstay and magnets.

First question - what is your budget?

< R15K - Any wheel on smart trainer will do, as long as there is local support like Saris or Tacx

> R15K - Kickr 5. The best for a reason. Neo 2T looks pretty rad too, but these are top dollar units. Neo 2T doesn't need external power either.

Not necessarily BT enabled. You need the V2 sensors.

Budget isn't too important, but at the end of the day I just want to have fun. Not as serious as people that throw ridiculous amounts of cash for anything cycling related.

If something like the Kickr smart trainer is worth the investment, then I'd rather put money aside for it than waste it on something that I'll replace soon anyway.

Has anyone had luck putting a mtb on a dumb trainer with speed and cadence sensors? I know that you won't be able to keep up due to the gearset, but I am unable to reach 100W no matter what I try with a 700x32C home trainer wheel, with average power around 40W. On the wattbike at the gym my average is around 140W with easy pedaling.
