Hi all,

I'm trying to help an elderly nieghbour declutter. He has 2 bikes that he is willing to let go of but I don't know anything about the bikes or if they have any value.

The one bike seems to be a Trek 2000 but I don't know if 2000 is the model or just part of the name!? No idea of the year model either.

The other only has a Fireball decal, don't know anything else about it.

Is there someone out there can maybe shed some light and wisdom?

Thanks

Trek 2000 is the model. That looks like a late 80s, early 90s version of the bike. I imagine it would be of some interest to hipsters, single-speeders or fixie fanatics. It's a lovely bike.

I can't tell what the second bike is.

the first one (the trek) is not worth much at all but looks rideable and neat enough - I looked at a much nicer Peugeot today for 1500 - maybe someone would use it on an indoor trainer but in my opinion R1500 would be a lot for this bike

The second one is not worth fixing or restoring - That bike should be given to someone prepared to make it go and use for transport

none of the above is fact, just my opinion and trying to help

Thank you all for the replies. It's greatly appreciated.

The TREK you could probably sell to someone looking for a restore project or needing some older spares or just simply as a commuter. Not sure you will get much but you will get something(a grand at the most maybe).

The 2nd bike is unfortunately worth basically nothing imho. You will hunt high and low for spares and the frame design is what they called ladies frame many years ago. You may find someone who is busy with some odd job for fun that just wants the frame as it's steel and can be cut and welded easily. I made a motorised scooter for a school project out of a frame just like that one. My Dad has also made a tow a long bike out of a frame like that.

If I didn't already have a workshop full of old frames like that I would have paid you R100 for the 2nd bike just incase I wanted the frame for some random project.
