Condolences to the family' date=' may you find some calm in the thought that i believe he left doing what he loved. A speedy recovery to all the others.

The LIDO route has now cost 4 lives that i am aware off in less than a year. This might be a good time to consider the thoughts of changing the meeting place and route to let's say Carnival City or driving to the Circus and cycling from there on quiet roads around Heidelberg and Nigel.

Even this route is not safe. 2 brothers were knocked down, one killed,  on the R550 recently. A few months before that incident another rider was clipped by a passing motorists and went down.

MTB seems to be the route to go, i'll take my chances with scary dropoff's over metal  monsters anyday.

What is more tragic is the fact that Ed was one of those guys who obeyed all the laws and wouldn't do anything stupid like some cyclists I know. He respected me the day we met which means a lot in that bunch, most of the others I had to prove myself first.

RIP Ed and again, condolences to your family and friends....I'm sure you will be sorely missedCry

At least the cops arrested the motorist for that one... Anyone know what happened to him from there?

I was there and ride for LPCC. Has to be the worst day of my life to see something like that and the pain that your friends are going through recobvering from their injuries. Having recently upgraded my MTB to a new one I think I will be spending some time offroad which is unfortunate as I love the road.

Hi All

My name is Anton and I am a family friend of the Stiglingh family.

I have informed and printed this forum that is posted here and they are very touched with all your well wishes and love and support.

On behalf of the entire Stiglingh family I would like to say thank you for the kind words, the support and encouragement.

To all the cyclists that always shared his love and passion for the sport and just the enjoyment of being on your bike, we thank you for always being there for and with Eddie when he was out on the road with all of you. He spoke of the group very fondly.

To the cyclists that got injured (mentally and physically) in the accident, we hope that all of you recover soon and I know that Eddie would not want you to loose your love for the sport that gave him so much enjoyment.

For all those who are interested and knew and cycled with Eddie Stiglingh;

the memorial service will be held on Wednesday the 16th at:

Life and Light Church

105 Jacoba Street

Alberton North

The service starts at 11:00 so please try and be there by 10:30.

Once again thank you for you support and love.

Kind regards

The Stiglingh Family

The rider that passed away on Saturday was our good friend Eddie (not sure of his surname) <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

This was a very sad day indeed and Eddie will be dearly missed. Condolences to his wife and children as well as all his friends.

The bunch was very well controlled on Saturday (for a change) and we were riding two abreast approaching the Klipriver bridge.

I was riding in the right-hand side column when the rider on the left hand side behind me reacted to a stone in the road resulting in a puncher on his front wheel. He swerved out and pushed Eddie into the oncoming truck. I estimate that aprox. 8 to 10 people came down.

This was a freak accident and will hopefully serve as a wakeup call to how dangerous the <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Lido circuit has become.

I have been riding these roads for many years and never has so many people been knocked down, some survived with mental and physical scars, and others killed.

I am really disturbed by this accident, I have not ridden since, normally I ride on that route every weekend.  I would welcome a route far away from the "Loop". A route from the Circus may be the answer.

I have had a tyre go in the buch and had to get out quickly, luckily someone at the back of the bunch warned me as I made my exit preventing me from pulling out in front of a car. I am seriously rattled by this.

My condolences to ED's family.

Cruzer - Club de Cirque goes from there (funnily enough) & they're a nice bunch covering a range of ability.  I think they go at 7 or just past - pm Buffwhack for exact details if you're interseted, there's some v quiet routes that way.

Sorry you're having a hard time with this but it's perfectly normal & hopefully will get easier over time.
