In this day of social media riding groups, are clubs still relevant?

CSA all work from home, so the chances of getting your call answered is… [insert your best description here].

However, there are a couple that respond to emails, so there is a glimmer of hope.

all work from home and most are volunteers so there's boggeral incentive to pick up the phone

This enforcing club membership is a total crap shoot.

Forcing cyclists to join a club is folly when many many clubs don't function well. Membership to a club then becomes a grudge purchase, along with PPA membership, trail permits etc.

I think many will rather opt for the day license route as currently happens and those have CSA membership will just buy day licenses also. So you back where you started with only those really interested in racing and those who were trying it out just opting out and attendance goes backward.

Wouldn't a better solution be to incentivize the clubs to jack up their game and be an attractive option so riders want to join?

provide an area for clubs to set up their hospitality and market themselves at events instead of charging two dilithium crystals and a temporal converter for the privilege.

I guess the baasskap mindset is still strong

Of the annual fees I pay for memberships of professional organisations, licenses and so on my membership of tgmtb is the only one I feel really good about paying.

I believe in the PPA although I am often disappointed in them and they're one of the cheapest of these annual fees so I don't mind that one.

Socially I belong to a small group of riders who have a team kit, ride together often (I live a bit far from.most of them so I am less often present than I'd like) and don't charge a membership but take cool cycling trips to events and for training and we then all just chip in for transport and accommodation etc.

I don't belong to CSA as it's clear they are useless.
