In my opinion the only one worth taking is the My Wellness - Nature's Whey. It's unflavoured. Bubblegum and Oreo flavour is for kids.

+1 for My Wellness. I use their Vegan Protein just because I struggle with a sensitive gut and this is a very clean product.

Instead of sugar they use a bit of stevia leaf extract.

Nutritech also has a few options with stevia leaf extract instead of sugar, although I still found them to be a bit too sweet.

Taste is of course very subjective though...

For all the issues with USN (price and quality) they actually the only brand (available in SA) that I am aware of that is 3rd party tested.

Been using whey protein for a good couple of years now (even before my cycling days when i was a gym bro) and tried and tested various brands.

Last one I used was Natures Whey (unflavoured) and  felt it was the best.

However I wont recommend it nor any protein powder out their available in SA.

The industry is poorly regulated and many products are untested (this is not just an SA thing which is rather scary). Reading too many reports of what you buy is not what you get.

A link to an old test done by Dischem back in 2015.

Right now im off Protein powder and just eating a high protein diet to make sure i hit my numbers. On the odd day I will top up with some USN (Blue lab - stay away from the hardcore black tubs, they have amino spiking in them so dont trust the quality or the numbers on the label).

Anyway just remember its a supplement and most of dietary needs should come from "normal foods sources". Its only meant to top you up if you have a "short coming" in your diet.

my approach is this:

is it tested?

is it yummy?

if both then thats my poison. Currently its USN after a drank a gazillion litres of it at Wine2whales.

sure its got sugar in it - life is to short to drink naff tasting protein.

I'm enjoying My Wellness Vegan Protein on the odd days where I feel I had to little protein throughout the day. Pea, hemp seed, and rice based. There is fructose in it, but not much and the chocolate one has a very natural Cacoa taste.
