OVERDRIVE Posted July 31, 2022 Share If there is a thread out there I missed, please refer. The MTB runs on Wed, TT Thursday, Road Race Sunday. Entries and times attached below. Question, who do we not have a male MTB entry? @Jewbacca @'Dale @DieselnDust maybe one of you lads know. Nobody from the SA Men. Rowl

Well Alan is racing Mont St.Anne next weekend so I guess there’s no way he’s be able to fly over the pond, compete and. Then be back in time for XCC on Friday. then the question boils down to why isn’t someone else taking the place like Buys, Beers or Botha (podium at SA XCO nationals) here’s our team for world champs Edited July 31, 2022 by DieselnDust Rowl and OVERDRIVE

DieselnDust Posted July 31, 2022 Share 4 minutes ago, OVERDRIVE said: This is my question...am confused. I found this from 2017: 17.04 Commonwealth Games [CWG] 2018 17.04.001 The primary selection criteria, and number of male and female riders, will be determined by the specific criteria as laid down by SASCOC and in any agreements between SASCOC and Cycling SA; 17.04.002 In terms of the cycling discipline types and quotas of the Commonwealth Games Association, only XCO will be contested at the 2018 CWG. Quotas are restricted to a maximum of 3 Women and 3 Men, and only to riders of 19 years and older in 2018; 17.04.003 Only current Under-23 and Elite riders in 2017, will be considered for selection. This means that current 2017 Juniors will not be considered for CWG 2018 selection; 17.04.004 To be considered for selection, riders will need to be ranked within the Top 10 in the Commonwealth [CW] countries as based on the UCI World Rankings as they stand on 30 June 2017; 17.04.005 In addition in terms of performance, and in competition against riders from other CW countries, riders need to achieve average lap times within 5% of the leading CW rider on at least one occasion. Where several riders meet this level, the provisions in 8.03 above will apply*; 17.04.006 While all the provisions of 17.04 above will apply strictly, the secondary selection criteria will be the same as those that apply to the SA Team Selection in 2017. This includes the basic requirements in 3.0 above, the Performance Criteria as listed in 7.0 above and the nominated Selection Races in 10.01 above*; 17.04.007 SASCOC retains the sole right for the final announcement of the CWG Team. Approval of selection is entirely at the discretion of SASCOC. Successfully following and attaining the necessary qualification in line with the selection criteria is not a guarantee of attendance at CWG, as that decision rests solely with SASCOC. *Refer to online document: 2017 Selection Criteria for the SA Mountain Bike Team and High Performance Squad V05 Source: Cycling South Africa 17.04.004 suggests that riders need to be in the top ten within the commonwealth riders according to the UCI rankings table. since neither Philip, Matt or Arno have races XCO abroad and therefore have precious little points it may be they do meet the top 10 in commonwealth criteria Rowl and OVERDRIVE

Remember those countries may have different requirements their riders need to meet. Ours is top 20 amongst commonwealth Edited July 31, 2022 by DieselnDust

In Wessel's case: He got a ticket to go and I believe the 2 gents before him too. Although that is it (a nod to say you can go). All else will fall on the athlete/sponsors. As someone else put it. Spend all that money to start last in the start chute... DieselnDust

I'm going off the CWG page for the mtb https://results.birmingham2022.com/#/athletic-sports-entries/MTB/* 8 entries for the ladies only (no mariske). for the men's not much there either, no pidcock, and obviously no one flying out from the two events in US/Canada. so dan mcconnel vs sam gaze? Danger Dassie Posted August 2, 2022 Share Fair play to those who can actually get there, more so if able to pull a result against the odds. Can imagine there are other priorities at play which actually benefit the careers and well being of the athletes. Rather than having to endure the **** sandwich from sporting federations/gov to attend an (arguably) outdated games event. At least the kit design looks good. Mariske tested positive for Covid, just before she was supposed to fly out, so she couldn't go. DieselnDust

tux26 Posted August 3, 2022 Share In the women's race, Evie is absolutely dominating. Only a major mechanical will stop her from winning. Isla Short seems to be fading. Candice Lill is in fourth, and Im not sure how she's doing. She seems to be dropping off. Zoe Cuthbert I believe is better than I gave her credit for, and I think she might come second. After that I don't think anyone else has a chance of getting a medal DieselnDust
