Top Cap - Removal

Hi

 

The Top Cap is made of some sort of soft metal ( I suspect its made by Extralite as is most of the components on the bike)

The challenge is that the allen key cannot get purchase in order for me to remove it. 

Any suggestions on how to get this sorted?

Two options I can see. 

First is to knock a bigger torx bit into it to get some grip and allow you to turn it. 

Second would be to cut a slot into it with a Dremel that will allow you to use a flat screwdriver to run it.

Its toast anyway, rather cut a slot into it with a dremel or a hacksaw. Use an oversized (meaning a wide head) flat screw driver to turn it out. Dont laugh (as I know you've all used one), but the back edge of mommy's finest dinner knives will work a treat as a broad head screw driver if you dont have one

Buy a new top cap and torque it back correctly. Thats probably why its been stripped to try get lose in the first place

Carbon steerer?

If so, it may be a 2 part expanding bolt system, and the two parts may have seized together.

Try an allen key one size smaller, there should be a bolt inside that'll loosen the expanding part and allow you to pull the whole thing out.
